Very good and reliable for entertaining guests and for an intimate dinner

My wife and I have been dining at Lalimes for many years. It is not a restaurant we go to weekly or monthly, but we try to go at least once a year. Over the years it has always been a reliable venue, and when we have guests that we want to treat to a very nice dinner, it is... read more

got lucky and stumbled on this place using tripadvisor! we were asked by two locals how we found it and had to admit it was pure luck. great food. i had the white corn soup with lime creme and basil, the halibut and a cornmeal lemon pound cake. all excellent.

Lalime's is the epitome of what is great about Berkeley cuisine. The restaurant focuses on local, seasonal ingredients and the menu changes in response to this. Service is personal and attentive. Servers have great knowledge of the offerings and you can get real opinions from them rather than "everything's great." They sometimes offer late night specials. Last time a pastrami... More

I'd heard from a foodie relative that this was a VERY good restaurant. I dragged my husband and a good foodie friend this past weekend. While my foodie friend and I were neutral about it, my husband assured me that for the dear price, we had done much better at other local restaurants. I found the food fresh, but without... More

We have been eating here for years and have never been disappointed. There is always a seasonally suitable range of options, and the service is excellent. If you like cocktails, be sure to try the Fred and Ginger. It's a good choice for a special occasion dinner.

Nine of us went here on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. We tried 7 or 8 different items off the small plates and "off the grain" sections of the menu. Most of them were shared amongst the group so everyone could get a taste. Of the large plates available, most of them were selected by at least one... More

Our server said that on Sundays Lalime offers oysters for just $1. It tops the list of starters, and should--it wasn't a typo! They were plump, briny, and clearly quite fresh. We noticed that most diners were having oysters as well with their Sunday dinners. Our meals were quite good all around. We'd stayed away for two years after a... More

My wife and I went to Lalime's with a friend for dinner and a quiet conversation. I must say it was perfect! Even though my wife had been to Lalime's many times, this was my first visit. The service was professional and friendly and the food was ample and delicious. The three of us shared two dishes and it was... More

This is a place where my husband and I head when we want a great meal, in a calm restaurant environment, in a local neighborhood in Berkeley. The menu always has wonderful items on it, many of which change often. The place itself is very nice as well, the tables aren't too close, the noise level is fine - not... More

My wife and I had a recent cozy and romantic dinner at Lalime's, which is a somehwat upscale neighborhood cafe in Berkeley serving California-Frenchish cuisine with a vaguely nouvelle and locally-sourced bias. The room is very pleasant, and we were seated right away at a comfortable and attractive table (with a reservation). Someone has paid attention to the details: place... More
