good place to enjoy delicious food

I would not call this restaurant a child friendly place because of the large bar area, but the food is amazing. I love the corn on the cob with spices and garlic. Yum! if you are driving past, you have to look twice as the sign is rather small. it's a big restaurant and they have tried to design... read more

My date and I had the guacamole and chips, which also comes with three different (but mild and bland) hot sauces. The chips were freshly deep fried, which was cool, but not that special. Also cod tacos and a sole special. Everything was good, although unremarkable.Drinks, music, and service were great. I'd come back for happy hour, but probably not... More

The food was satisfactory but nothing special. Yes, high quality ingredients but the finished products were just so-so. Nearly half the seats are wooden benches that are definitely not comfortable to sit on. There is an automatic 20% tip added to the bill. A pricey experience that might suit some but not a fine dining night out.

Full disclosure, I live nearby and go to Comal frequently, so maybe I am a 'regular'? Not sure if that grants me special treatment, but the service and food I've had over the course of many visits has always been fantastic. I adore the marguerites, but they have a great selection of micro-brews too. My most recent visit (last month)... More

Comal is a special place. The food is terrific, as is the service. I even appreciate the no-tipping policy, and don't mind at all that they add a service charge; our service was so good that we cheated a bit, and left a few extra dollars on the table.

We used google maps to locate a mexican place to eat in downtown Berkeley. The google maps helped sort out eating experiences into different costs and places that customers liked.

Pretty good mexican-ish food. Cocktails were very tasty but small for the price. Get a Burro, nice take on a Moscow mule. The three salsas were also tasty. The back bar area is the spot.

Matt has done it again. This is an outstanding restaurant with top of the line food and drinks. Beautiful ambience, great sound system, superb service. One of the finest in the Bay area. Easy to get to. Take Bart to the University exit in Berkley and it is right there. Matt, I miss you and your restaurant. Will definitely return... More

We happened on Comal after our first choice was closed at 9pm on a Sunday night. Fate was kind! We loved it! We started with fresh chips and guacamole with 3 different salsas. My husband ordered the chicken tacos which he rated " Really good," while my daughter and I, both vegetarians, ordered the tyaluda. This was new to us... More

Our evening at Comal went well. We started with drinks at the back bar and had a table within 30 minutes. Food was a mix from the menu- enchiladas, cerviche, guacamole, fish tacos. Several in the group had visited before and ordered fish tacos as they had enjoyed them earlier.
