Tasty Mexican Fusion, Private Dining Space

We were here for a group dinner and booked the private dining room, which is downstairs in the basement. The main restaurant is airy and has a loft feel with spacious bar area. The private dining room is a bit dark and is a long narrow room. So table is one long table for 16 people, which was... read more

First, the good: Comal has great drinks (including tequila flights) and a very large, heated, partly covered outdoor bar/dining area to enjoy them in. Really good salsa and chips as well. Beyond that, the food, price and service are the reasons I only give the place two stars. $56 for a pretty good but by no means stellar rib-eye is... More

Best Mexican food I have had in a very long time. Take them seriously when they say the fire roasted dishes can serve 2-3-- try four. Do not miss the chile relleno. Absolutely great. The margaritas are good but rather pricey. I had the Jack Satan, a wonderful tequila beverage., Of course you need the house made guacamole and chips.... More

We went her as a large group that was part of a working group. This restaurant is in the heart of Berkeley. For the large group we were able to get a family style dinner. This let's you taste a great selection of items that you would normally not order in smaller groups. The guacamole was very very good, also... More

I had great expectations about Comal, the interior design is nice (more on the modern side), but the food was a bit of a let down, being just average, the drinks though, were very delicious.

Stopped in here for a few drinks with a local friend. Great drinks! We also had chips, salsa and guac. It was a great experience for us and the setting of the front, patio/bar an outside back were all worth going back. I hear the food is excellent!

By 7pm on a Friday night, any good restaurant should be packed and of course Comal was. We put our name in and headed to the back bar to have a drink during our 30 min wait for a table. Bar was busy, but bartended did a good job of getting to everyone and the margaritas were ON POINT. Back... More

Better and quieter than I expected. The bill was less than I expected, as well. Comal is a Mexican (Oaxacan, I think) restaurant, with an extensive tequila and mescal list, and a variety of craft beers. We had an enjoyable meal. Friends and reviews had all said it was quite noisy, but this was a special occasion, and my wife... More

This was the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. We ordered the chips and guacamole for the table - the chips were fresh, seemed homemade and the guac was fabulous. The rich tacos I ordered were spicy and full of flavor, complimented by a very nice Rose. We were seated outside, which was very nice, and the... More
