We were drawn in by the old school ambience of the place and the vast selection of Japanese liquor on display in the bar. There were 6 of us and it was a dinner party. I could not resist ordering something unknown and so together with 2 others, we shared the urchin. It was good, far from what I imagined and a worthwhile experience. Noisy place and not real comfortable for someone nearing 80, but minor distractions from what was otherwise a great evening.

Flavorful grilled Japanese food (no sushi) -- interesting and unusual items (quail, medium sized whole squid, chicken hearts, pork belly -- served on skewers). Very diverse collection of Sake and Shochu

Ippuku serves authentic Japanese ikzakaya food -- mostly yakitori, but some other small plates as well. Try the shiitake mushrooms and the yuba tofu skin. The sake list is short but very we'll curated.
