Delicious German cuisine....just practice the name!!

Very informal place with very good cuisine and vast German beer choices. The veggie mushroom shpaezel dish was great and their pancake appetizer was a crowd pleaser also. Staff could be a bit more attentive and better trained with busing and serving, but the food is what bring us back. Also have... read more

You can't ask for much more than an array of fine beer, stellar cuisine, and great hospitality! Thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant even though I don't necessarily have the most experience with German fair. However, I do consider myself a bit of a foodie, if only perhaps a guy who just really enjoys well put together dishes. The Goulash was amazing,... More

I was drawn in with a coupon for 50% off a second entreé, happy to finally be going in after driving past so many times. Wonderful, spacious, modern and comfortable atmosphere here. We inhaled deeply of the vases of fresh roses on the greeting table. Standouts? Smiling, genuinely friendly waitstaff. Delicious, filling food. Quality wine. Drawbacks? Seemed a dollar or... More

I've been here about 5-6 times and I've never left disappointed. The space is on San Pablo, a major north/south thoroughfare in the East Bay so it's not hard to find. The menu features a nice selection of German entrees, featuring of course sausages and schnitzels. Because this is Berkeley there are many options (usually 3-5) friendly to vegetarians and... More

Just had the fish there today, really tasty. Would recommend highly. Lovely space and I also found out it is very green and eco friendly, sustainable etc, solar panels, organic food, mill their own oats for their bread, certified green business, low on salt and sugar etc. Fantastic clean taste, great service, fair price. I'll be back soon.

Poor execution, tasteless schnitzel, goulasch, spaetzle, apple streusel. Poor value for the money. Have lived and worked in Germany for several years, this was a poor attempt at German cooking. Sorry we took friends here. Coffe was good. Wait staff attentive, friendly. Would not recommend.

I was worried that when my friends suggested this place, there wouldnt be many vegetarian options. But there was this veggie crispy cake that was served with a yummy arugula salad and amazing potatoes. my whole meal was amazing. What do they put in those potatoes ?? Everything is cute inside and I like how the menu is in both... More

German food with a local interpretation. Everything tastes fresh. Wine and beers are also very interesting. It feels like you are in a restaurant in Europe.

This was probably the 5th visit to that place and as always we were quite pleased with the quality of the food. We started with the BrezeI, which was not like the one you can get in Bavaria, but still one of the best we ever had in the US. I had the catch of the day (trout), my wife... More

We went here to celebrate my daughter's 32d birthday (gawd, I'm old, I'm old, I'm old....) and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the place. We were greeted promptly, seated fairly quickly, and served well - the only downtick on the service being that I ordered the hard cider and was brought apfelwein, which is not the same thing...
