German food with a local interpretation. Everything tastes fresh. Wine and beers are also very interesting. It feels like you are in a restaurant in Europe.

This was probably the 5th visit to that place and as always we were quite pleased with the quality of the food. We started with the BrezeI, which was not like the one you can get in Bavaria, but still one of the best we ever had in the US. I had the catch of the day (trout), my wife... More

We went here to celebrate my daughter's 32d birthday (gawd, I'm old, I'm old, I'm old....) and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the place. We were greeted promptly, seated fairly quickly, and served well - the only downtick on the service being that I ordered the hard cider and was brought apfelwein, which is not the same thing... My friend and I shared the freshly baked bread and smoked salmon as well as the spatzil. The server was very attentive and told us that everything is freshly made and the owner takes care in whatever she prepares. We enjoyed our light lunch.

Every other German restaurant we've visited has had a German atmosphere and theme. Gaumenkitzel, however, feels a lot like a cafeteria. Kind of antiseptic. An excellent selection of German beers. The food was good, and as far as we know, authentic, but there was nothing about the meal that stood out.

We had a wonderful tomato soup and a plate of cheeses and sausage. Swift service! Lovely atmosphere!

Our son and daughter-in-law brought us to this restaurant when we were visiting them in April. They had visited the place before and had enjoyed the food. We all tried different beers from their extensive selection. The server was very knowledgeable about the types of beers and the regions they came from. I don't remember all the selections of food... Seeking decent German food on a rainy day at lunch time, we popped into Gaumenkitzel. The restaurant is very open with a high, beamed ceiling and fans plus lots of tall windows. It was very modern German looking to me, but quite cold that day. They have some German foods for sale against the wall. Incidentally, the bathroom was very... More

You know you're in for a good dinner when you casually walk into an establishment at 5:30pm on a Saturday afternoon and are politely asked 'Do you have a Reservation?' OH YES!! If you like German food and you want to have a nice experience, do visit Gaumenkitzel. My husband's Mother is from Germany so he knows German food. We... More

This is one of the better restaurants in the It is Berkeley of course so at Gaumenkitzel the classic German sausage and potatoes options are complimented with a nice variety of vegetarian friendly options. They have a lot of different beers options, somehow beer for breakfast just feels right at a German restaurant and they have some very tasty brews... More
