The restaurant was nice and the service was good. I started with the Butternut/Apple soup and that was very good. But unfortunately, the goulash was disappointing. I think my dish contained maybe 2-3 small chunks of meat and the overall taste was quite bland - nothing like what goulash should taste like. (I was just in Berlin and the Czech... More

They have a well-rounded beer selection, including some style that are hard to find in America like Dusseldorf altbiers. The spaetzle was pretty good. I'll be back for sure!

On vacation in Oakland, the Berkley area offers a myriad of ethnic choices for the weary traveler just minutes away from their accommodations. We walked into this delightful German gasthaus and were transported back to our days in Frankfurt Germany in the 70's. The beer choices were plentiful and pleasant tasting in the German style. Being older, we split a... More

Friends recommended this, and it was a delightful dinner. The special Oktoberfest Märten beer was excellent and the Momastery Andechs Doppelbock was great. The smoked pork loin delicious, with tangy sauerkraut and smooth mashed potatoes with butter. The Jägetschnitzel was heavenly, pork with mushroom sauce and spätzle. Very family friendly yet not noisy.

This place was out of the way for me but as a German I had to try it! The owners are nice and out of Hamburg. Bretzel and sausage: YUMMY Main entrees, not so much. When spending the kind of money they are asking, the food should be flavorful and you should wish to finish the pate (or take it... More

I got the schnitzel with Spatzel and mashed potatoes, and it was all VERY good! The atmosphere was very cozy, and our wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They had a lot to offer in terms of beer and wine. Will definitely be back!

The best thing about Gaumenkitzel is that it has good vegetarian options. I got the veggie pattie and it was quite good, as were my sides. My husband and daughter got the goulash and thought that it was good. The beer was quite good. They did not provide any bread with the meal. The space is pleasant and open. I... More

You can't ask for much more than an array of fine beer, stellar cuisine, and great hospitality! Thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant even though I don't necessarily have the most experience with German fair. However, I do consider myself a bit of a foodie, if only perhaps a guy who just really enjoys well put together dishes. The Goulash was amazing,... More
