Hidden gem

I know the Claremont hotel is probably not hidden to most people from the bay area, but to me who has drive up and down I80 to and from San Francisco many, many times, I had no idea that it was hidden just over the hill in Berkeley. I mentioned to a friend that I was staying in San Francisco,... read more

We are part of the President's Club with Fairmont Hotel and when we learned the Fairmont recently purchased the Claremont Hotel we had to visit. On our way to Sonoma we stopped off in Berkeley to see this historic 100 year old hotel. The views were amazing and the hotel has that amazing character but with fresh updates that really... More

The restuarant has great views of the bay. The menu is limited, but some dinner specials saved it. The food was good and so was the service. It was quiet enough to hear conversation. Price was about what I expected from this level restaurant. A good place for dinner where conversation is an important part of the evening. Breakfast, expensive.

Although I made my reservation months ago and asked for a window view, this was not to be the case on 24th, a busy evening for the restaurant. We were seated in a large space adjacent to the bar, but no inside the restaurant proper. This was ok because we agreed it was conducive to better conversation. Prix Fixe menu:... More

You can't miss with the view and new interiors recently renovated by the Fairmont. They still need time to get the food up to par. I had the fried chicken salad, it was very disappointing. The chicken strips were hidden under the salad and just an average dressing at $19. Not worth it! I have to say the drinks were... More

We had made a reservation for brunch for my mother's 75th birthday. There were 3 of us, all staying at the hotel. We requested (ahead of time) a window table, but were told by the hostess that there was "no way" a group of 3 (rather than 4) could have a window table; and when I tried politely to explain... Had the wings at the bar while waiting for my room to be readied. They were cinnamon coated and came with a side of curried pickled veggies. Odd idea at first but real delicious once I gave them a try. I just wanted wings and a beer but was nicely suprised with this variation.

We went to the Meritage at the Claremont Hotel for our anniversary dinner. Definitely make a reservation and ask for a table by the window - we were there right at sunset - beautiful view of the bay - Robert was our waiter very nice and attentive. I had told them ahead of time that is was our anniversary and... More

I had the chicken bahn mi, which was great although have the bread was soggy. Once I had replacement bread, I was a happy camper. The prices are a bit too high I believed but for a hotel restaurant I was quite impressed. Also had their food as room service and equally tasty.
