Our neighborhood gem

After a long work week, we love to end it here. It's small with a neighborhood feel and the food is reliably excellent. We also enjoy sitting at the counter watching the chefs do their thing.

we dined at 5pm after a matinee performance at the berkeley rep theater......a 10 minute walk away. you can see everything going on in the kitchen.......many good things!..... negatives: the decor is spartan and the noise level high.....very good value priceing for high quality and good size portions. a good all-italian wine list. a definite repeat.

Our daughter Lorraine, who lives in New York, went online to find this restaurant as a treat for her mom's birthday, and as it happens, our anniversary. Located on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley, Corso is fun, incredibly comfortable and has great food. Lorraine made a great choice, un-taste tested. We think we got the best seat in the house in... More

If you around Berkeley and feel like some vero macaroni, here is the place. nice place, very good service. But you must have a reservation for the weekends. Other problem ,if you are not a "early bird"they run off the best things fast, very fast for my taste. For us was the fish and ,trippa .I had a yogurt kind of gnocchi not... More

May 12 There are many fine restos in Berkeley-Oakland, but our last time at Trattoria Corso was so memorable that we wanted to return. On the north side of Shattuck, it is bit further out of the University sphere, but still a safe area to walk in the evening. It is bigger than I remembered and is still popular with... More

the menu is very limited. My son had steak which he found to be o.k.($49), my daughter in law had bass which she found to be o.k.($49), my wife had the sausage which looked unappetizing and was over-spiced. I first had the loin of lamb which I sent back because it was chewy and tasteless, I then had the pasta... More

While polls show Americans' favorite ethnic food is Italian, I have found few decent Italian restaurants in Berkeley...many in SF but few in the East Bay. A few years ago, Corso added a new option in the North Berkeley Gourmet Ghetto area. A small intimate restaurant with a few seats at the bar and chef's counter make it a charming... More

Went here on a Sunday evening with a reservation but was seated quickly. The food was outstanding, one of the better meals I had in along time. I had the pork cutlet, was tender and tasty. Wife had Bucatini and said it was excellent. Service was good, tables close together but standard for a restaurant in an urban setting. Highly... More

Personable service, excellent food, an always perfect Bistecca. Noisy but great with just the two of us.

Delicious food, good/interesting wines by the glass, convivial and slightly crowded seating, all add up to a memorable Italian-inspired evening. There are a few seats available at the counter, some that give you a close view of the fast-paced chefs. Special occasion? Casual get together with friends, wishing you were dining in Florence? Buon Appetito!
