we have been eating at the Vans for years. We went last night for my birthday. First my husband could not eat his prime rib- total grissle and fat. My son's dinner was also inedible. They were fairly nice and took the prime rib off the bill but we tried to use a groupon coupon ($75) but they failed to... More

It's a climb from the parking lot, and more steps to the top floor for the best views. Both the views and the food are worth the climb. Excellent food, modest portions and great service.

Decided to come here and have dinner since we were in the area. Went to Van's about 4 p.m. and it was a great time to eat there because it just had opened. The service was great because our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu items. We ordered the Garlic Pasta Shells, Filet Mignon, Sandabs and Italian Sausage stuffed... More

This is a landmark place to go and it deserves all of the excellent ratings and has the qualities that people write about. They have also started using Groupons, so it make it much more affordable. For me, my only negative was parking, which is sort of slanted off onto the downward side of the hill it's on. I have... More

I has scallops and my boyfriend had the prime rib. We both enjoyed our food and the sunset. I loved the views and the history of this place. Staff was very friendly and we spent good three hours here. We were glad that we did not order any appetizers we would have popped otherwise. In the end a nice cup... More

We made a reservation for Mother's Day. Got a corner table ( a little tight ) with a nice view. Mary was our server and very attentive. Our drink order was returned promptly and Mary explained the menu thoroughly. The busser replenished the bread quickly. My wife ordered the prime rib ( it was delicious ). My son and I... More

3 1/2* "The history of The Van's is a colorful tale that dates back to around the turn of the century. Built in 1915, it originally was erected to house part of the Japanese Exhibition at the Panama Pacific International Exposition held in the San Francisco Marina District in commemoration of the opening of the Panama Canal." Traditional steak house... More

Went back because of a Groupon, deciding to try it again after a few years. Walked there for a 5.30pm dinner on a Sunday. Seated upstairs, chairs not comfortable for the slow service. Only one server. Had the steak; not good. The stuffed pork chop was nice. Desert was good. If you have to, go for the view, but not... More

They have their steak specials but I like their buttery escargots. It's an institution in Belmont. Great view up on the hill. Parking can be a bit tricky. Make sure you make reservations. They have several rooms and available for corporate functions.
