Such a darn good diner

'We do love this restaurant for breakfast, have to try lunch again some time, wasn't impressed the 1st time. This time I had the Chile Verde Omelet, OMG, this thing was amazing, flavor just couldn't be beat! Husband had pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage and it was very good too. This is the kind of place that I like as soon as I walk in the door. Pappy's is a step back in time; a true cafe/coffee shop as I fondly remember them from the '50s and '60s. The walls are covered with local memorabilia that are an important part of the experience. It feels good to settle into a... More

Good food, fairly priced, and large portions. Great service with a friendly staff. Be sure to give them a heads-up if you plan to bring in a large group! BUSY on weekends, but worth the wait. Lots of memorabilia and antiques to look at as well!

This was like stepping back in time , coffee cup never got close to cold or empty and service with a smile is an understatement . First my fiancé is an Eggs Benedict fanatic, she claims these were the best anywhere and we have been everywhere . I had the HALF order of chicken fried steak more than enough ,... More

We had a party of 5 and each one had a different breakfast menu item. Don't ask for honey it's awful ! The portion sizes were huge and everything was delicious. Great service. Good prices. Cool atmosphere. Where the locals eat.

Since moving to Bakersfield we have been making a concerted effort to seek out the best hidden gems in the area. We try to avoid the chains and go for local fare. Pappy's Coffee Shop fits the bill. Ambiance is not great but it is fun to look at the oil field memorabilia on the walls. Not sure why the... More

Arriving after 9 am, the breakfast crowd had gone but the place was still somewhat busy; not extremely mind you, but somewhat. Despite this, the service was still slow from the moment we walked through the door. We stood just inside for at least 2-3 minutes without being acknowledged so we finally asked a busboy if it was ok to... More

Best wheat pancakes ever, I had a great experience here, more then once, it was a very heart of the home style feel environment. Also love their unique mugs and jars for tea and coffee, pretty neat!!

Was very bummed out, the day we went, because they were out of Chicken Fried Steak, what the heck. They are famous for very large breakfasts plus their Chicken Fried Steak. :( Anyway I tried the Chili Verde omelette, oh my goodness, it was excellent! The sauce over it was great and the pork inside of it was so tender.... More

We went to Pappy's for the first time on frequent business travel to Bako. This place is part museum and part time machine and part heaven. Excellent food! I highly recommend the chicken-fried steak and biscuits and gravy! This is going to be the go-to place for us on business!
