Description: Our restaurant is located on the shores of Lough Swilly, at Fahan, Co.Donegal, in the premises of The Railway Tavern which was formally the Station House of the Londonderry & Lough Swilly Railway Company (L&LSR)..Our Main course dishes are cooked to perfection on our wood burning Firebox Grill, just like in the old days were the engineers on the locomotives, used their firebox to heat their snacks !The Bar and Restaurant still have the old fires blazing which create a very cosy , snug room to eat or drink in ..

We had a meal at the Firebox Grill last Friday night, while we were staying at the Marine View Guest House in Fahan, and had a wonderful meal. I had Sea Bass as my main course and my husband had the Surf and Turf. He said it was the best steak he has ever had! It was good to watch... More

Away in Donegal for wedding anniversary and this restaurant was recommended to us..Lovely setting and seating nicely spaced out which is always good, nothing I hate more than tables being on top of each other and no privacy. The food was simply devine, service was professional and prompt..Portions were very good and excellent value for money..Thumbs up to the owners, a... More

My wife and i had a very good meal here whilst we were on holiday a few weeks ago. The difference with this place is that the menu is not what you usually get around this part of the world. Starter of Asian beef was excellent and a tasty steak for main course. Very cheap also compared to other nearby... More

Fab little place, very atmospheric, with its low beams, open fireplaces, rustic wooden tables, candle light ; food is excellent , & highly recommend having an after dinner drink in the welcoming bar areas. Cosy & friendly, a place that lends itself to quickly making new friends. Bonus is wifi !!!!

We visited the Firebox wth family. Highchair was a bit too low, baby at eye level with table top. The restaurant gets really hot because the steaks etc are done on an open fire. On a thundery night it was very hot. Scallops were fairly average but steaks were excellent, all cooked as requested and super tender. We chose champ... More

Two couples at meal. Exterior and carpark/entrance bit drab. Interior Decor is rustic and cosy, nothing fancy or extravagant. Place was getting busy and service in general was OK. Sirloin was 22 euro I think, it was good but very small portion of chips and no veg included in the price. Nice spot for a meal with a good atmosphere... More

I have always love the atmosphere of the Railway Tavern but I ate at the firebox grill for the first time recently. The food was just delicious, my mouth is watering thinking about it! The open grill was fun to see and it gave the whole room a lovely warmth that I think would be really special in the winter.... More
