We'd been getting so tired of hotel breakfast food and other average quality food at restaurants around this popular tourist destination and started to think of the reason why there aren't any reasonably good food and drinks around. Our local guide brought us to Star Beam on our third day saying that this place has very good reputation among travelers,... More

Just a few steps off the main "street" in Old Bagan is this restaurant among several crammed into this area. It's amazing what the owners can do with a tiny stove smaller than what you'll find in most western homes. Their breads are decent quality and their roast chicken is as good as any in a Myanmar hotel. The owners... More

We visited this restaurant on four occasions during our stay - three for dinner and once for lunch. The quality of the food is exceptional and each dish is clearly prepared by people who care about what they service. Within the group, we tried most of the dishes on the menu and there were no complaints - the highlights were... More

Great place for lunch - with surprisingly good French baguette sandwiches. We liked the fusion aspect of the restaurant, and the fact that the food was, as others have said, really good.

The French and local cuisines make for interesting menu. All local ingredients but with great French bread. Great service. Across the street from our hotel, Tharabar Gate Hotel. (Take a flashlight!) Clean and we found it safe for foreigners to eat there. Beer under the table in available.

Star Beam is right next to Be Kind to Animals, just down the road from the Hotel @ Tharabar Gate where we stayed. We loved our lunch here -- especially the homemade hot French rolls -- crunchy outside and wonderfully soft inside -- fabulous! We had three salads: green papaya, chicken with lime and peanuts and eggplant -- all really... More

Next door to The Moon (be kind to animals), this is a little more upmarket and a perfect place for a romantic dinner. Probably the best roast aubergine salad of the trip and a half decent chocolate fondant despite the 20 min wait. Overall, highly recommended.

We went there for dinner twice during our 4 nights stay in Bagan. The grilled Ayarwaddy river fish we had on both occasions (the main reason for coming back) was amazingly delicious! The grilled eggplant salad and avocado salad deserve also an extra mention, very yummie! And the freshly baked bread could easily beat any French baguette and was happily... More

Small menu but delicious food. Like The Moon Be Kind to Animals, they are not allowed to sell beer but will send someone to get it for you at the shop or BYO. Homemade bread was delicious, the fish we had was as good as any I've had here in NYC, the green papaya salad was outrageously yummy as was... More

Having travelled throughout Myanmar, this is by far the best food I've eaten!!! Amazing bread, beautiful fresh salads and fabulously refreshing drinks!!! The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing!!! A fantastic way to rest after a morning of visiting the temples!!!
