We were staying about 20km away and cycled down to Pangai from Foa Is. We almost missed this place as it is on a side road with a sign behind growing foliage! We were in Pangai during the rebuild post cyclone Ian so it looked like this cafe had a bit of a monopoly. The menu is surprisingly extensive, even... More

Ha'apai is thankfully of the tourist trail and has limited services, part of its charm I believe. Magda runs Mariner's cafe, which is full of excellent cuisine, friendly people and lashings of island charm. The menu offers a great variety of food, from great breakfast dishes, to light lunches and mouth watering dinner choices. All can be washed down with... More

The food is beautiful and very varied. I went there several times with a group and we all enjoyed it. The ambiance is very nice and relaxed. Make sure you try the Chocolate brownie.

A pretty average 3rd world cafe. However, it has little opposition. The staff were not friendly at all.

Food was excellent, from burgers to pizza's cheap and cheerful to a full on mains meal. All at decent prices and fair prices too. Good service, good ambience and a very nice cup of coffee (percolated with real coffee!) Nice music (background only which is the best and not blaring like some places). Go on and experience Tonga and you... More

Magda and her staff make you feel welcome from the first visit. The coffee is great and so is the food. Great family atmosphere.

Food was good, not too cheap, but that's understandable considering the isolation of this place! It's a good place to try local ingredients and the hostess's handmade pasta is very filling! Dogs are very cute and friendly, and there is cheap wifi. They also rent (slightly wonky) bikes and are helpful if you need info.

If you feel the urgent need to experience some 'ambiance' on the remote island of Ha'apai, go to Mariner's cafe. Not something luxuary, but perfectly adapted to the environment. Typical, cosy and good snacks at reasonables. Furthermore the staff is very relax and helpful and free internet is available. A place to return to.
