even a temporary porteña sick of empanadas couldn't get enough

I had been living in Buenos Aires for six months before coming to Cafayate, living on not that much money, I had really gotten sick of empanadas. I didn't want to see another empanada for MONTHS. And then my mom found a review for this place, and said we should check it out. Being the wonderful... read more

We loved our evening meal of empanadas so much we went back to the other branch the next day for lunch. Having the menu of 12 empanadas plus jug of wine was a great way to try all the flavours and it was enough for 3 of us (girls). The service was great & later in the evening a couple... More

Cool place with reviews and comments written all on the walls. Very friendly service and definitely the best Empanadas I ate so far! You can choose between 12 (!) different fillings, we tried nearly all. :)

Great place to try many different sorts of tasty empanadas. You can eat-in or, if the weather is nice, take them and go it them in the nearby park.

Eventually tracked this place down just off the square by Chatus wine bar and went for dinner. Soooo good. Excellent baked empanadas to start in a fantastic choice of flavours (although personally the traditional carne was still my favourite). Very reasonably priced local house wine that was very tasty. Mains of carbonara and salteado (both typical local food)... delicious with... More

It's now moved next door to Chato's wine bar just off the Plaza. 12 empanadas and a litre of wine for 96 pesos is a bargain. The first night we went there I thought for that price the wine would be like paint stripper but it was very pleasant. The food was great, very tasty with some empanadas having quality... More

Following the TripAdvisor scores we decided to go to this restaurant. Our empanadas were black, the meat we ordered as main dish was just ineatable, chewy, grilled black... The waitress was unfriendly. Skip the place.

We visited la Casa during our stay in Cafayate. The restaurant just moved, next door to Chato's. There were 12 sorts of empanadas, so we ordered a dozen to try everything. The price is comparable to other restaurants (so not super cheap) but the empanadas are yummy.

The Calchaquí has to be the most delicious empanada I've ever eaten, with exquisite goat's cheese. For those who do not fancy goat's cheease, try the Cafayateña, another gem, this one has a touch of Malbec wine. There are two branches, go for the bigger one with a nice fireplace and live local music. Enjoy!

A plate of empanadas and a half bottle of wine - perfect lunch for two. Many different types to try from, tamales and other regional food as well. Definitely include this on your lunch list!
