So much bigger than it appears from the outside! Lovely staff and good beers. Real local friendly feel.

The Bear Hotel in picturesque Crickhowell on the River Wye is still the best pub and restaurant in Wales and there are not many as good in England. It has no views, no outdoor seating area to write home about, just a feeling that warms you when you enter its space. rain or shine, winter or summer, the joint evokes... More

We went for a meal with friends. We were in the upper(?) dining room & when we walked in it looked stunning with chair covers & oil candles and lilies. We weren't disappointed by the food. We had calamari chorizo & potato salad from the specials menu and Welsh rarebit as starters. Absolutely lovely. Then I had Thai green fish... More

After a very offhand waitress who was less than helpful when we arrived we we very well served by a very friendly waiter. The food was absolutely delicious, we had the lasagne and the calves liver, both cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the waiter forgot to bring us the desert menu we requested and after waiting ten minutes we gave up... More

Everything we ordered was simple pub food. But the best of its type. I had fillet steak which was perfectly cooked. My wife had the fish an chips. Rather surprised by how good the food was actually! Best I have had in Crick. Good service, nice environment. Excellent real ale. The biz.

Visited the Bear whilst on holiday in South Wales. Service and prompt arrival of food very good. One meal was poor with rock hard pastry as a pie lid and contents of pie half empty and over cooked. The other two meals were excellent and the poor meal was replaced quickly with an apology. However it was disappointing that no... More

We have been going to the Bear for many years, and have rarely been disappointed. It is an oldie worldie pub/inn with beautiful flowers in baskets and tubs outside. The menu rarely changes, but there are always specials and there is a good variety of options from light snacks to full meals. The service needs a bit of attention, but... More

The lady behind the bar was very friendly, and we were served quickly. Found a table easily and our order was taken promptly. The menu had plenty of choice. Food arrived in good time. I had a cheese and broccoli quiche which was tasty, but the pastry was rather overcooked. The rest of the meal was fine, and well presented.... More

Definitely did not live up to its reputation and local reviews that I had read prior to going. Not the cleanest restaurant I have ever been in, Even the menu cards were laminated but hadn't been wiped. I even wiped my cutlery which is something I have never done in a restaurant before. Service was very poor, food was burnt... More
