Good honest food - Friday Steak Night can be made gluten free

Friendly place with real fire (October). Fortunately they had a cider fest in September and several draught ciders were still available. Flat iron steak cooked well with gluten free option of hollandaise sauce instead of peppercorn sauce. Staff very helpful.

We found this place by chance while in Ullapool. The roast chicken in a massive Yorkshire pudding with gravy and vegetables was perfect and very reasonably priced. The only suggestion we would make is to possibly change the coal fire to log fire, because the smell was quite strong, but we did not notice it after a while and it... More

Visited once for lunch and again for an evening meal. We had the mussels which were outstanding. Monsters in both caliber and quality. The evening meal was well received. A little light on atmosphere as we were up the back of the restaurant. No complaints for any of the options but not outstanding. Swear the barman/owner? was a doppelganger for... More

A large number of friends and family were staying at this hotel so we went to eat with them. Other than soup, they were out of humus advertised in two dishes and there was hardly any other veggie offerings. The soup was nice but the bread was limp mass-produced white. It wasn't so much that they were out of anything... More

The food is generally ok but if you have a complaint to make be warned - the chef comes out spoiling for an argument. I asked for an undercooked steak to be heated a little longer which they did - but it was still undercooked for me and the chips had gone cold in the meantime ( clearly not kept... More

I've visited Ullapool many times. There are other places you can eat - provided you'll accept generic fare, and service from people who really don't care too much about you, because after all you're a tourist, and there are plenty more where you come from...The Argyll, these last 7 or 8 years under the ownership of Nigel, has encouraged a... We were expecting some fine Scottish food in this establishment which unfortunately went wrong from setting foot in the door. We were quite happy to sit in the bar area which is cosy but were told that we HAD to go into the restaurant. (NB when we had finished our meal and returned to the bar area there were two... More

I went to the Argyll Hotel in Ullapool for a meal. I asked at the bar if they did food and i was directed to the restaurant. The restaurant looked nice. Well presented, clean and spacious. It was very quiet, only one other table taken, so i was served quickly. The waiter insisted on calling me 'buddy' and i didn't... More

We ate a great local dinner in the pub. I had freshly caught cod with a lemon sauce and veggies, my granddaughter had yummy potato leek soup, and we both had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Then we watched a live show with local legend Davy Cowan, excellent singer-songwriter... Lovely evening!
