My visits to Kelso are not complete without going to this cafe. The staff are welcoking, friendly and helpful. Plus the food is good value. I usually have soup or the special. There is a good range of cakes and slices and in addition some gluten free cakes. I love the place.

After a cold wet morning doing Christmas Shopping in delightful Kelso, which is FULL of inspirational bespoke shops, we were drawn to this cafe whose lights beamed at us through the drizzle. It was buzzin inside, obviously well known by the locals, always a good sign. We were seated straight away, ordered and within a very reasonable time our soup... More

Obviously a place that locals know as its not on the main drag. We have returned here on our 2nd trip to Kelso and again were not disappointed. The hugest bowls of soup imaginable and the best range of traybakes (all homemade) I have ever sen!

The place was heaving when we arrived but we were shown to an empty table, ordered and the food arrived very promptly served by friendly staff. The fact that it was full of locals is always a good sign. The coffee was good and hot and the leek and potato soup and border tart were some of the best we've... More

Called in for a quick lunch 12.10 on a Saturday, most tables occupied a few empty (maybe reserved) however the waitress said no available places and fully booked for the day. I find that hard to believe I suspect she knew we weren't local and guessed we were English. We visit Kelso about once a month first time we've attempted... More

This is a terrific cafe that is close to the market square, serving delicious coffee and many tempting sweet snacks. The menu of soups, salads and wraps is relatively uncomplicated, but make no mistake this their strength. What the Hoot 'n Cat offer is executed exceptionally well. We stopped in for coffee one day and decided on the spot to... More

A lovely place with lots of parking. The welcome was very pleasant and the service was excellent. They have skilfully taken simple food and made it very special. The lovely personal touch made our over all experience a delight. Thank you 😀

Me and my husband stopped in for some lunch on a Saturday. Good seating areas from tables and chairs to tub chairs and sofas. Attentive staff who were very friendly and helpful. Nice selections on the menu - soup, sandwiches, wraps, kids options, coffee, drinks and homemade cakes and scones. All with daily specials. We went for the 2 specials... More
