A seafood lover's paradise

I was taken here as a birthday treat. An overnight stay with dinner, bed and breakfast. We got a superb deal on TravelZoo which included the Fish taster menu. Well, as a seafood lover, I was in seventh heaven. The place is old and full of character, just like Porlock Weir itself. If you are... read more

We have not visited for quite a few years, since it was called Andrews. Nothing has appeared to have changed which is a good thing. The food is from a limited menu but the available dishes are produced to a very high quality. There is also a specials menu which I assume changes. You could be mistaken for thinking you... More

Our second stay and Sarah and crew were as welcoming as before. Huge room with 4 poster and view over the bay and harbour. Fish taster menu was scrummy and we pushed the boat out with recommended wines for each course. Certainly no regrets there. Dining room not huge but only couples so pleasant low buzz of conversation. We had... More

On our final night of our holiday, we decided to have a fish and chip takeaway supper from The Cafe, as was advertised on an advertising board outside the restaurant. Our comments are based on the takeaway, not sit down, but the fish and chips were possibly the worst we have ever had the misfortune to purchase. The haddock (cod... More

As we always do we pre ordered a lobster English if possible and it was first of the season. I had roast cod and David had the lobster and we washed it down with a bottle of viognier. The rest of the meal was good standard fayre and we had coffee in the lounge. You can pre order anything you... More

The Cafe is no longer fine dining as it was when it was Andrews on the Wier and isn't a great deal cheaper than it was. The food is still ok and the seafood was especially enjoyable. Note that the much praised seafood tasting menu mentioned is not available anymore. The waitress said they've not done it for five weeks... More

The review is in 2 parts; We had the seafood taster menu on a very blustery Saturday night. The food was magnificent in all aspects. Breakfast was also spectacular. The downside was that the greeting on arrival was far from welcoming. The bedroom looked a little tired. The toilet didn't flush properly and there was a lack of tea and... More

We were in Porlock Weir for lunch and saw a board outside the cafe advertising take away fish and chips for £5. We have them before and they were excellent, we ordered and decided to eat them by the sea. Well what a let down, chips were fine, fish was mostly thick awful batter, needless to say we threw the... My partner and I ate in the cafe on Valentine's. We were pleased with the food and the service. The only disappointment was that we were not informed at booking about the seafood taster and so were unable to order it. However the food we had was delicious
