A Welcoming Pub in this Lovely Village

We stopped herefor lunch during a walk over Hope Bowlder Hill and a number of other hills on the way to Cardington. The staff were very welcoming and we were quickly served with tea and coffee, which was wonderful after quite a long walk. We then ordered a Vegetarian Tagine, which was very... read more

after previous reviews I was looking forward to a lovely meal here. I'd describe it as poor pub food and over priced. We paid £11.95 for fish and chips. The inside batter on the fish was not cooked. For a country pub I also expected a much better choice of ciders. And finally the seating needs a good clean. This... More

The grouchy, sullen rudeness of the landlord in this lovely old pub (in an equally lovely old village) used to be a real turn off. Still it remains in business since because of its cosy beamed atmousphere, good beer and because there are few alternatives nearby. Things have picked up though--the landlord now occasionally smiles and says hello, the food... More

Visited this pub twice as rented a cottage in the area recently for a short break. Really old world, but certainly not naff or pretentious. Clearly frequented by locals for both a drink and dining. Extensive menu of home cooked food, plus specials board. Had venison stew with root vegetable and choice of potatoes first night, rump of lambs with... More

An interesting 5 minute drive from Church Stretton down narrow country lanes which might be a bit challenging for those not used to them. The pub is beautiful and has an authentic charm although a little run down which somehow adds to it. We stopped by for a light lunch and everything was very good. Highly recommended.

Although I did not think much of the dessert (caramel apple pie), we both enjoyed our main meals. The Royal Oak has a very cosy atmosphere in a lovely village setting. Dessert was painfully slow to arrive (even slower for some other customers), despite the main dinner rush being over..

We arrived to a busy pub on friday night. We were really looking forward to sampling some ales and they did not disappoint. Then the food linguine was great sadly the review below seems a bit silly with the spag hoops as the pasta that was used is thin but hey ho.My husband had the steak and mushroom pie which... More

We booked as a party for 11 people, they got the time wrong and sadly the owner was very inflexible and unobliging when more of our guests tried to book. To top it all the food was very disappointing

The beer is amazing, the younger staff were willing and great. The chef and the owner...i never saw smile or crack a straight face. Surely a landlord enjoys their job!? My parents have been thrice as it is close to my sisters dwelling and each time not one smile. I have worked in pubs and you can spot a microwable... More

As usual lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious. Had a good laugh with the lovely staff. I had sword fish which was lovely and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for. The men had the pies and iced grill. Plenty of food all full and happy.
