Description: This cafe is recommended by Lonely Planet and could be fantastic. The view is good, The food looked good and some tasted good. I ma prompted ot review becase the service was very bad. The women in charge who I believe is the owner was one fo the grumpier people we met on a 5month tour of Europe. She was loudly critical of and to the young man working there, she was unwelcoming and ignored much of what we said to her. The coffee was ok but made with reluctance and an offhand attitude. We felt as if we were intruding in her space and a real nuisance -- at 11 am !!. We had driven out of the way to get to a place which we felt would be special place for a coffee. It was but in all the wrong ways. We are New Zealanders who do not normally complain but this place was worth complaining about.

We were making the loop south of Ullapool and had just about despaired of finding a cafe open in the late afternoon. The Mountain Coffee Company turned out to be a great boon. They offered a variety of options, most in the comfort food range and plenty of choice for vegetarians. Plus excellent coffee. The shop contained many good books,... More

Stopped here through lack of choice while on a business trip recently. Sadly there is little else open in Gairloch by October as this café does not deserve business. The premises are grubby, toilets disgusting, food choices very limited. I had a tuna bagel - not a lot you can do wrong with a tin of tuna, some mayo and... More

After a long drive up we were pleading to the gods of coffee for somewhere we could sit and have a latte, and they delivered. The place is eclectic to say the least but interesting if you like the outdoors and travel. The food was good as was the coffee. There are books to be bought everywhere and attached is... More

Went here with my dad whilst up in Scotland for whale watching. This is a lovely, slightly boho place to have a coffee. It has its own bookshop attached with a great selection. Coffee was excellent and my dad enjoyed his tea.

Having just canoed up the sea loch we were in need of lots of refreshment. The sandwisches were very filling and prepared us nicely for cake and coffee. A great place to just rest and recuperate, we read magazines for a long time till we perused the book shop. Having fed our stomaches & brains we then left feeling much... More

Our first impression was that this is a quirky and interesting cafe, as we browsed around the shop stacked with books, magazines, posters etc. The house description of the coffee and soup was appealing, so we ordered same and took them to a conservatory-like eating area. So far so good. But sadly the soup was over-spiced and the coffee pretty... More

We went here for fabulous dried fruit scones and coffee both mornings that we stayed in Gairloch. It is also a fantastic bookstore, the kind one can spend hours in.

Had a walk to the village whilst staying in a cottage in gairloch. Very strange little cafe, with lots of memorabilia on every surface available- magazine and newspaper cut outs about foxes, badgers, wildlife, anti hunting (fabulous), places in America etc with souvenirs from many places. Lots of interesting curios and articles to read. It is great to see somebody... More

Having waited for more than five minutes for a member of staff to even acknowledge my presence I left - disappointed, disillusioned and turned off by the aggressive anti-hunting (not that I do myself) literature and masks to the great god fox everywhere. Has no-one told them foxes kill for pleasure and spread disease. Have they ever seen a hen-coop... More
