Ranked #9 of 17 restaurants in Gairloch
Cuisines: Coffee Shop
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch
Description: This cafe is recommended by Lonely Planet and could be fantastic. The view is good, The food looked good and some tasted good. I ma prompted ot review becase the service was very bad. The women in charge who I believe is the owner was one fo the grumpier people we met on a 5month tour of Europe. She was loudly critical of and to the young man working there, she was unwelcoming and ignored much of what we said to her. The coffee was ok but made with reluctance and an offhand attitude. We felt as if we were intruding in her space and a real nuisance -- at 11 am !!. We had driven out of the way to get to a place which we felt would be special place for a coffee. It was but in all the wrong ways. We are New Zealanders who do not normally complain but this place was worth complaining about.

Love the laid back atmosphere of the mountain coffee company in short this is our kind of place. No airs no graces just a chilled out vibe that makes you want to keep coming back. Love the decoration, I could stay there for hours just reading all the posters and leaflets on the walls. Always got a warm welcome by... More

Loved the mountain coffee company, so much so that we came back a second and third time! Always greeted with a smile and had great service, awesome laid back atmosphere and enjoyed the food and drink (as did the dog who had lots of water due to the heat!) little pricey but to me it was worth it. Views were... More

£37 for two adults and three kids to have coffee, juice and a cake each. Somehow the 12 year old that took our order forgot my daughters selection. This meant we had to queue again and re-order. I had to ask if there had been another mistake when I was asked for £5 for a kids half portion of juice... More

Great place to visit. Would have loved to see more on the menu especially for children. The bagels are a little tough for them to eat so I asked if they could do a simple roll, but they said no. So the kids had soup on a very warm summer's day. The thing is the soup came with a roll!!!... More

Huge portion sizes and the scones were lovely and fresh. Great range of teas / coffee. Only complaint was that the conservatory was too hot!

After trying this place several times in hopes of having a decent visit, we have realised that it is not going to happen. It is overpriced and the food is average at best. As others have pointed out, the scones are huge, but burnt and undercooked at the same time. Tables are sticky and we've never felt comfortable. There are... More

Great view. Strong coffee, tasty soup, scrummy cakes. Mix of surf/climbing dudes, political campaigns, and really well-stocked bookshop. Friendly staff who manage very busy turnover with a smile.

The Mountain Cafe (and the attached bookshop) were very laid back and welcoming. We enjoying sitting out on the deck with a coffee and a great piece of chocolate fudge cake.

Always worth a visit if you're in the area. Nice atmosphere and staff who try their best even when they're busy which is most of the time. Lots of mountaineering type stuff on the walls. Love the bookshop next door with its eclectic mix of stock.
