Cuisines: Coffee Shop
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch
Description: This cafe is recommended by Lonely Planet and could be fantastic. The view is good, The food looked good and some tasted good. I ma prompted ot review becase the service was very bad. The women in charge who I believe is the owner was one fo the grumpier people we met on a 5month tour of Europe. She was loudly critical of and to the young man working there, she was unwelcoming and ignored much of what we said to her. The coffee was ok but made with reluctance and an offhand attitude. We felt as if we were intruding in her space and a real nuisance -- at 11 am !!. We had driven out of the way to get to a place which we felt would be special place for a coffee. It was but in all the wrong ways. We are New Zealanders who do not normally complain but this place was worth complaining about.

Had a walk to the village whilst staying in a cottage in gairloch. Very strange little cafe, with lots of memorabilia on every surface available- magazine and newspaper cut outs about foxes, badgers, wildlife, anti hunting (fabulous), places in America etc with souvenirs from many places. Lots of interesting curios and articles to read. It is great to see somebody... More

Having waited for more than five minutes for a member of staff to even acknowledge my presence I left - disappointed, disillusioned and turned off by the aggressive anti-hunting (not that I do myself) literature and masks to the great god fox everywhere. Has no-one told them foxes kill for pleasure and spread disease. Have they ever seen a hen-coop... More

A favourite stop off on way to Rua Reidh Lighthouse and always provides great coffee and cake. Good to browse around the book shop to stock up on fun books for gifts and a good travel/explorer book or two. Friendly staff and great to get out of the rain!!

As a restaurant, the Mountain Coffee company is a great bookstore and hang-out, a wonderful place to stop on a rainy day (you might encounter a few of these in the Wester Ross) to enjoy a spot of tea or a cappucchino and cake, while perusing the book shop, which tilts heavily toward the left with lots of offerings about... Always visit here when we are up this way; the coffee is good, and the cakes etc are designed to carb-load you for walking etc.... big and heavy! As a previous reviewer mentions; it can feel like you are intruding, and the service is sometimes begrudging and a bit surly. Most of all though, I felt like the cafe was... More

No question but this quirky location offers a great tea and coffee selection, with home made cakes as well. All a bit Camden/Hampstead with the hippy/surfer ambience and a somewhat anti establishment feel but you're there for the coffee not owt else!

What a lovely place to stop for tasty treats :) Would have stayed longer and drunk lots more coffee and ate more of their delicious cakes had there had been wifi available.

We love coming here for the coffee, the views, the adjoining bookshop and the fun interior, but it's a real shame the food just isn't up to the same standard. We've been coming to the area for 14 years, and we've tried soup and cakes a couple of times, but sadly it's not improved. The soup lacks flavour and the... More

Once again this place didn't let us down. The scones were as huge as ever...a meal in themselves and ultra-tasty. We've been here loads of times and we have never had a bad experience so I have difficulty believing the poor reviews. I love the reading material which is available to read with your coffee...and the bookshop next door. And... More
