Coffee and 'sensible' books

Decent coffee and cakes, with a book shop attached, but trying just that wee bit too hard to be alternative. All the books are terribly worthy and everything just too correct. You get a terrible urge just to go in, ask for instant coffee, Tesco cakes, read the Sun and break wind (and they probably... read more

Loved it here after a long day's hike. Perfect armosphere, you feel transported into exactly what it's called - a little coffee shop right in the middle of the mountains ;-) We were lucky enough to come here on the most beautiful of summer days, so we were able to sit on the balcony and look out over the water.... Stopped off for a snack at lunch time. Very hippy place dirty a hell , the walls are plastered in posters to try and hide the fact its basically dirty. Needs a good refurbishment. Basic food & coffee. Ordered 3 cheese and herb scones, 2 where burnt to hell on top.The 3 knives wrapped in serviettes where dirty. The place was... More

We only went to this restaurant because unfortunately the fish n chip shop over the street doesn't appear to open at lunchtimes. This place seems more concerned with hugging fish than serving them. Not a great menu, all very organic and alternative. The soup was hot and had some vegetables in it, and the sandwiches were edible but on the... More

Stopped here for lunch at this quirky little place. The soup was hot, packed with vegetables and obviously homemade but it could have been better seasoned; it was served in a huge portion with a roll and butter so was good value. Coffees were good and the cakes looked amazing- I was too full from the bucket of soup to... More

On a rainy day when we discovered this cafe, we found it fun and unexpected. A bottomless bowl of leek and potato soup was really welcome. We smiled as we watched fellow diners explore cheese scones that occupied the whole of their plates. The bookshop that's attached is also a curiosity - interesting stuff that someone's worked hard to 'curate'.... More

Nice atmosphere great coffee fantastic bookshop, a bit alternative hippy vibe, though I was disapointed and suprised at their lack of Gluten free , all they were able to offer was a measly fruit bar, tasty but no substantial GF free or lacotse free eating options. . Actuallly the staff did not seem too clued up. But that aside service... More

This place is so out of norm where it is located that I just loved it. The book shop is cozily cramped and stocked with loads of interesting stuff. I spend a rainy hour just browsing and went back the next day to buy. I did not have coffee but visited the cafe out of curiosity. I spent quite some... More

Stopped here on our way to Torridon for coffee. The café has a cosy interior and a great choice of food. However, tidiness and cleanliness could be improved. The bookshop is small, but has a very good selection of books.

We've visited here a few years ago and were really impressed, however this year we felt that the whole place needed an update. I understand that it is a quirky place but it felt very cluttered. The wheat free option was honestly disgusting. The raw chocolate pie as it was called, was a tiny little bar which was indescribable. The... More
