This cafe is recommended by Lonely Planet and could be fantastic. The view is good, The food looked good and some tasted good. I ma prompted ot review becase the service was very bad. The women in charge who I believe is the owner was one fo the grumpier people we met on a 5month tour of Europe. She was loudly critical of and to the young man working there, she was unwelcoming and ignored much of what we said to her. The coffee was ok but made with reluctance and an offhand attitude. We felt as if we were intruding in her space and a real nuisance -- at 11 am !!. We had driven out of the way to get to a place which we felt would be special place for a coffee. It was but in all the wrong ways. We are New Zealanders who do not normally complain but this place was worth complaining about.

Good food and nice coffee

I can recommend the ham and cheese bagel which arrives toasted if desired with a nice farmhouse cheddar and really nice ham. The coffee is freshly ground, so you will not be disappointed. The added bonus is that there is a fantastic quirky book shop attached with books for all tastes.

We stopped in today for some latish lunch. We aren't regulars but we have been before. It's sad to say that if the present owners remain, we won't be back. We were the only customers on a cold but fine day. The only hot food on offer was soup which sadly was bland and served with a very average whole... More

We've been here many times over the past 3 years in the hope that it gets better. It just gets worse. You can't use the conservatory, it is dirty, the owner is very rude, the coffee is just awful. They need to sell up and let someone else run it. Gairloch deserves better! Even the staff look embarrassed to work... More

I was in mountain coffee on wed 21. It was very unsociable, I had to wait to be served, Only had a coffee, place looked very dirty. As I started to look at the information on the walls, I was taken aback about the material. It was full of anti country pursuits. All about closing sea world, saving badgers, etc.... More

Such a shame writing this bad review as this could be a great little cafe. After visiting I noticed the oldest member of staff was about 14. I noticed this after the music choice was rap music with horrific swearing throughout the track. The young members of staff knew this as I heard them comment saying they didn't think it... More

My idea of coffee shop hell is the ubiquitous twee establishment full of mothers with noisy children or groups of dowagers speaking all at once.Tthis coffee shop for me is at the other end of the spectrum. Crammed with interesting books, magazines and posters it is the kind of place that I could easily spend an hour. You certainly would... More

Very pleasant place to have a hot drink of what ever takes your fancy. Lovely conservatory area with a great view, the cakes were brilliant. On the side is a bookshop which makes for an interesting wander around.

Although quite a charming experience when you walk in this is a pretty dirty coffee shop that is certainly not shy in letting you know their views and beliefs! Unfortunately for a company that call itself a coffee company the lady appeared not to know how to make coffee properly. THe coffee was bitter as she left it in the... More

My second visit to this wonderful place. Someone says they try to be too alternative...good on them. Food is fantastic (huge mature cheddar cheese scone and a massive piece of plum tart). Our country needsmore places like this as opposed to sterile tearooms with piped Harry Lauder songs and clootie dumpling. Keep up the good work guys!
