My wife and I stayed here as part of a large group of family and friends who were scattered around a number of hotels and guest houses in Alnmouth as part of a family celebration. I caught the smell of dampness as we entered the foyer, not unexpected in a building so old, but it paved the way for an... More

I was looking forward to visiting the Schooner Pub and wasn't disappointed! The landlord was really kind and indulging our curiosity behind 'the haunted pub' stories and was very friendly, as were the other staff. Yes. It's oldy worldy, but that adds to it's charm I think! The restaurant we sat in was nice too. However, the best bit was... More

Having said that the beer is good and traditional pub grub is served and also there is a take-away option. Nothin fancy, just a straight forward pub with good prices.

Its difficult to get past the scruffy & very down at heal feel of this pub, with its abysmal decor and yards of electric cables looping around the walls and ceilings. But if you do manage it, the food can sometimes be quite rewarding. Our breaded mushroom starter with an extremely dreary salad was not at all enjoyable, although her... More

We all shared a family meal on a lovely sunny afternoon. Accepted the outside space was not the most attractive and would perhaps benefit from some potted conifers to disguise the building works to the rear. However, full marks for a speedy service, generous helpings and very good bar food! We would visit again!!

Couldn't get in any of the other restaurants in town so went there as it was the only place left with space. We were forewarned about food but thought we'd make our own minds up. Had a steak pie which had a square top that was tough and the meat was chewy and broke a filling on it for which... More

We had no idea about any haunting and so can't comment in that . However we went for lunch, outside, on a nice day.The chops were the best I've had for ages and the scampi was great . The fish was a little disappointing but overall we enjoyed a great couple of hours and would come back .

We ate here a couple of times at lunch and in the evening. The staff were fine although I would say short staffed.Never saw a manager at all.The food was fine. The toilets needed some money spent as did the whole outside of the building. Its huge, wouldn't like to guess how many covers they could do,but massive compared to the other... More

This is the second time in 2 months I have visited The Schooner. The other pubs in Alnmouth are cosier and better decorated.....that said .....they are also overrated. With a little love and care breathed into The Schooners public areas, the rest would be quaking. Good, honest, consistent, welcoming service and freshly cooked food that is streets ahead in terms...
