Home cooked goodness

Both my wife and I visited on Saturday 21st for the first time. It's nothing glamorous to look at as it is clearly a "local", however the service and more importantly the food were top quality. All home cooked and fresh and huge portions, will definitely be going back.

On occasions we have visited The Wheatsheaf for Sunday lunch. Always we have had a nice starter and a perfectly cooked main course, usually a roast meat and all the trimmings. We have found it is advisable to book. When we arrive we are welcomed and shown to our table and given the menu and asked what drinks we would... More

Never been before but decided to go out for sunday lunch, staff was helpful and friendly dinner was lovely, however from a chef that worked on the QE2 its a big shame he couldnt make yorkshire puddings, But im sure "auntie Bessie" was happy that he used hers. Dont know if we will go again, its a little out dated... More

Thank you for the time taken to write your review and we are pleased to note that the Sunday dinner “was lovely”. Before further comment I must just clarify the position regarding the QE2, that is: in my early days of being a chef I was tutored by a former head chef from the Ship; not that I actually worked... Went in on a tuesday night, intent on having a burger, almost didn't because of the tempting Menü,but had one of the best burgers I've ever had- made by a local craft butcher of quality beef,no fat or the usual dotubtful provenance ingredients. Served with great Chips and veg on a red hot plate, promptly, and not expensive, either. Will definitely revisit and fill the... More

Thank you to all of the staff who made our Christmas Day dinner memorable. The meal was truly delicious with fresh and seasonal produce. Cooked to perfection - 6 courses that set the taste buds alive, extremely we'll presented and Great value for the cost. We will definitely be visiting in the near future.

Decided to drop into the Wheatsheaf and were not disappointed. A really nice selection of traditional pub food with a few well chosen specials. It was busy (which was a good sign) and the staff were attentive, warm and friendly. The portions were huge and the food was really beautifully done. Really nice people and a lovely evening out.

The single best pub meal experience, choose the steak, guaranteed not to be disappointed, has to be Michelin star standard.... melt in the mouth food. Don't ask for a steak knife... it would be an insult! Friendly, cosy, relaxed and thoroughly enjoyably..... highly recommended.

We visited here for a family meal on a Saturday night. The best welcome and service I've come across in a long time, and basically the best steak. The menu is limited but it means everything is done to an excellent standard. Great atmosphere, great food, and worth what for us will be, a 30mile drive.

Stayed recently at the Boston West Hotel and could walk the short distance to this nice looking pub. As i was staying for a couple of nights I decided to try it on night 1 and wasnt disappointed so ate on my 2nd night too. On both evenings I was met by a warm welcome and equally warm log burner....
