Love the combination of real country pub with atmosphere great food. Venison was AMAZING - pity one of us had to go for the steak as they were down to the last portion! Shared a starter of beetroot smoked salmon to start and cheese board to follow which were both very good. Quantities of food just right and prompt unobtrusive... More

The Wheatsheaf is a large stone-built village pub with a big (paved) garden, with a range of outdoor seating. They also have a beautiful private dining room, with a slightly unusual décor: black painted walls and skulls! We loved the unusual collection of prints and photographs in interesting frames, leading up the staircase. We were made to feel very welcome.... More

6 of us sat down for lunch, enjoyed everything put in front of us, and there was nothing left on any plate. Of particular note was the saffron cod, the spicy tomato juice ( fresh horseradish kick in), lemon suet pudding. The menus both food and wine were interesting, with a wide selection. A word of caution, the ceilings are... More

We visited for lunch yesterday with 2 friends. This is our fourth year going to this place. I booked by phone quite a while back and did ask for a table by the fire place. This was noted (and had been on previous years), but when we arrived neither of the fires was lighted and we were not give a... More

A lovely old pub. I visited today with two friends who had reserved a table for lunch. We each had three courses with drinks. I really can't think of a thing that we were unhappy with. The food was fabulous. Delicious and nicely presented. A good variety to choose from on the menu too. It looks like the chef loves... More

A very nice meal of excellently prepared food, served by a very helpful waitress, who had to suffer the inefficiencies of the bar when getting something for us to drink. Also a £19 piece of fish - with only 6 hand cut chips - c'mon - you can buy them ready made! The creamed leeks were to 'die for'! But... More

We visited on a very cold Tuesday lunchtime. There was a roaring fire in the grate and we were given a warm welcome from the staff, this was a good start. The decor was pleasant and relaxing and we were shown to our table immediately and given menus and offered water immediately. The menu offered something for everyone with the... More

I have been a frequent visitor to this beautiful pub. I visited on Saturday and was disappointed and felt very let down, The place was crawling with children screaming. TV sets blaring, waitresses representing the disaffected youth and wait staff giving flippant replies. The food was amazing but that really isn't enough. I almost felt the only thing missing from... Everything a top pub Sunday lunch should be. Welcoming and professional staff, trad decor, great food - families, couples and dogs all obviously having a good time. Lots of satisfied customers. Only minor complaint is that the single chairs are on the small side (probably due to satisfied customers paying lots of visits here.....)

My wife and I had a week in a cottage at Farmington, a few miles from Northleach. Having seen a number of very good reviews for the Wheatsheaf, we decided to combine having lunch there with a walk from our cottage. It was a good call! There was a fixed price menu, and although there was just one choice, that... More
