Basic food and environment at luxury dining prices.

Quality of ingredients were good but the food was generally bland and lacking inspiration. 2 of our 4 dishes were plain cooked meat laid on top of roughly chopped vegetables. Lacking good flavour or culinary skill. If you were served this food in a basic pub you would not complain. However you... read more

This was a celebration dinner with my 80 year old mother in law and our family including kids aged 10 and 13. Overall I would say that the experience was ok to good, not stellar. The waiter got off to a bit of a bad start by offering us aperitifs "whilst we chose from the menu" which we ordered (blood... More

Had been invited to join a special family party for a private, pre reserved lunch in a separate room. Room not available on arrival so crowded into a room off the bar on too few dirty tables, dirty cutlery, wet and dirty plates. Staff not particularly bothered. Food was ok when it came in terms of quantity; quality variable. Everyone... More

The owner Ronnie is from South Africa and he has taken over the Wheatsheaf Inn, he is very friendly and now has a good chef. We had Sunday lunch there last Sunday 15th Feb and it was one of the most tasty Sunday lunches we have had for a long time and very reasonable. I would thoroughly recommend the pub... More

Arrived at 1:30pm on Sunday Lunchtime, place was full and tables reserved. Barman told us we could sit at the bar and have food there. We only wanted a snack so I ordered devilled kidneys on toast (£6) and my wife ordered a lentil salad (£8). Both dishes came within 10 mins of ordering with cotton napkins, cutlery on a... More

Love the combination of real country pub with atmosphere great food. Venison was AMAZING - pity one of us had to go for the steak as they were down to the last portion! Shared a starter of beetroot smoked salmon to start and cheese board to follow which were both very good. Quantities of food just right and prompt unobtrusive... More

The Wheatsheaf is a large stone-built village pub with a big (paved) garden, with a range of outdoor seating. They also have a beautiful private dining room, with a slightly unusual décor: black painted walls and skulls! We loved the unusual collection of prints and photographs in interesting frames, leading up the staircase. We were made to feel very welcome.... More

6 of us sat down for lunch, enjoyed everything put in front of us, and there was nothing left on any plate. Of particular note was the saffron cod, the spicy tomato juice ( fresh horseradish kick in), lemon suet pudding. The menus both food and wine were interesting, with a wide selection. A word of caution, the ceilings are... More

We visited for lunch yesterday with 2 friends. This is our fourth year going to this place. I booked by phone quite a while back and did ask for a table by the fire place. This was noted (and had been on previous years), but when we arrived neither of the fires was lighted and we were not give a... More

A lovely old pub. I visited today with two friends who had reserved a table for lunch. We each had three courses with drinks. I really can't think of a thing that we were unhappy with. The food was fabulous. Delicious and nicely presented. A good variety to choose from on the menu too. It looks like the chef loves... More
