We've been twice in the last 3 months and both times found it expensive and disappointing. Communication was difficult with some of the waiting staff and the price of the food was hitting above its quality.

We drive past here a lot and I was sceptical (probably due to the celeb chef link and we had tried the cambs Jaimie's which was not good a couple of years ago) anyway my 50th today went on spur of moment and had an absolutely first class meal. The staff were friendly, professional. We had cod in a tomato... More

We had great expectations given its origins and useful celebrity linkage but the whole experience was average and probably in line with most Hertfordshire / Essex pubs but at 50% more in price The food was good but not excellent, the service was good but not exceptional If I was local it would feature in our list but not really... We have been to this restaurant quite a few times as We are relatively local and every time We have been We have had a great meal. This time we were 8 of us. All the food has been locally sourced and cooked wonderfully. It isn't cheap but then it is very good value for what you pay. The ceilings... More

Visited the Cricketers for the first time. Always heard good things so thought we would give it a try. Visited on a Friday evening place looked very welcoming. We were shown to our table by our waitress April who looked after us for rest of the evening. The menu was lovely and it was a really tough decision on our... More

We stopped at the cricketers for lunch at the end of five days' cycling. We arrived at midday, and although we had originally planned to have a sandwich, the hot dishes sounded worth sampling, having not eaten here for years. We sat in the garden and ordered two fish dishes, haddock and chips, and cod, fried and served on a... More

We enjoyed our food here – we started with drinks on the terrace and then had dinner in the main restaurant. There was a good choice of meals, healthy portions, interesting wine list, good service. However, the romantic setting was ruined by tables being very close to one another. There was a couple having a domestic on one side, and... More

Visited a number of times and never been disappointed. There is a great selection of food all of great quality. The service is excellent. My favourite place to eat in the winter with the fire on and cosy atmosphere in the bar. And still nice to have a drink outside during the summer months with lovely light bites and a... More

Went here for a birthday meal as hadn't been here in a while due to it being inferior to other pubs in the local area. We thought we would give it another go but sadly, it still has some work to do to be up to scratch with some of the other local treats. We arrived, were instantly shown to... More

We came here for my birthday as we live in Arkesden and it's just up the road. We used to come regularly but service was getting slow and hit and miss so we hadn't been for a couple of years. Sadly still slow service even though the restaurant was pretty empty.
