Good food but could do with more staff when busy

We came here as a group of 8 a few days ago to celebrate 2 birthdays. We've visited in the past so knew what to expect. The menu is always varied and done well and I love the fresh bread basket to nibble on before ordering. It took some time to be given our menus and that became the theme... read more

Have just returned from Sunday Lunch at this pub and have to say that we were a little disappointed. Calamari to start with along with the foccachia bread was good and the roast beef mains with Yorkshire pudding was delicious. However, the roast lamb was stringy and the venison sausages were not that great. We had left room for pudding,... More

Went with family for the first time and had a superb time and was made very welcome by all the staff. Atmosphere was lovely. Food was superb. A real gem of a pub with a lovely open fire which we sat by and admired. A must if you are in the area or passing through.

We visited the cricketers for Saturday lunch and from the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was superb, as a group we had steak, smoked artichoke, chicken Kiev and lambs liver and not one of us could fault our meal. The deserts were also very good. I... More

This is the third occasion I have had a meal at the The Cricketers, this time it was in the bar. (If you are 6ft 2in tall - watch your head!) I started with the soup that was very tasty, followed by pork belly. There were ample well-cooked vegetables for everyone. My wife's comment was her piece of haddock was... More

Four of us went for midday lunch Thursday 22nd January. Our friends had been before and always enjoyed a good experience. The Pub/Restaurant is nicely presented in an old building with beams and low ceilings. The menu was interesting with a specials sheet added. My wife and I had salmon and prawn cocktails for starters which were very nice. Surprisingly,... More

I have eaten here on a number of occasions but haven't been for a little while, yet I am pleased to report that little has changed, except for the menu!! This is a fabulous restaurant, from the warm welcome when you arrive, to the waiting staff, all which enhance the dining experience. However the food is what we go out... More

My wife and I took a friend to this restaurant in early December 2014 expecting a pretty decent meal. Unfortunately we felt the food and service to be lacking as:- •The restaurant was cold. •2 of the 3 draught bitters were cloudy. •The meat balls in the spaghetti were like bullets. •The pheasant coq au vin was very dry and...
