A bit disappointed as my husband and I did not realize they mainly served fishes on their menu. my husband had a lamb shank which he said was just average, nothing really special i did not try it because I don't like lamb so I took his word for it. I had haddock carbonarra which was mind blowingly good. My... More

Booked the Cricketers for my husband's fortieth. What a disappointment! The food was awful, the worst meal we have had for a long time. The starters were bland but edible, my main of Venison 'medallions' was completely inedible, I think the deer had a hard life and an even worse death. We sent it back and the the waiter barely... We've eaten here for ever, with breaks in between because every now and again there is a dip in the quality of the cooking. Unfortunately The Cricketers are currently nestling in that dip. I must commend them though for the change in waiting staff - this was an excellent decision and the positive attitude that comes with them is like... More

Forget the association with the Celebrity child. This restaurant stands head and shoulders above all else in the area. The variety of fresh fish on offer (on a Monday evening) as well as alternatives was surprising. The atmosphere, decor and warmth and professionalism of the staff was reassuring. No pompous 'foodie words'. First class restaurant, with country warmth.

Visited for lunch last week, and cannot fault the food. We started with winter vegetable soup and the blue cheese and mulled wine poached pear salad, both were wonderful, and I was especially pleased that the Stilton was mild and creamy rather than overpowering. This was followed by the Priors Hall Farm pork and one of the specialty "superfood" salads,... More

Booking essential for Sunday at this busy pub in rural Essex. The Sunday roast was very good but the normal lunch menu was also available. The place was packed, the atmosphere excellent and the staff provided excellent service. The live piano was a great bonus. Well kept Adnams beer available. There was a wait for the food which one would... More

We dined here for Saturday lunch - and opted to go straight to the main course. This turned out to be a good decision - as the food was both plentiful and of a high quality! Staff were very friendly and an overall great experience was had by all. Will definitely be back!

We booked the special offer package (double room, dinner for 2 and breakfast). What a fantastic deal. We had a room in the "Willow rooms" which was lovely and contained everything we would need for a visit. We were also pleased to find a book in the room with local walks (of two we did) and some interesting history of... More

We visited the UK; friends took us to The Cricketers, it was lovely! We had a long, languid Sunday lunch. The menu was extremely imaginative, well thought through and shows a management with a commitment to excellence. The quality of the food lived up to expectation. We live on the other side of the world but would love to go... More

Went with friends last Saturday evening, although we booked we had to sit in the pub area. However, the service was still as good as always. The staff were attentive and the food as usual was great. We all had something different from the menu and we were all pleased. Very reasonably priced food and wine. Definitely somewhere to go... More
