This is a traditionally old looking pub the bar was full which is a good sign so we sat in the other room to the left it was too large to be a snug, it has a great atmosphere with good beer and great food, the staff were nice and friendly, its a lovely village lots of little independent shops... The bar always has a great lively atmosphere and they rotate a good range of well kept guest ales. It's usually full of locals but is always welcoming. It's a proper cosy, old school pub and one of the few in the area that has resisted a ghastly blonde-oak makeover. The staff are fantastic - hard working and welcoming, they... More

We went in on a weekday evening. The bar itself was heaving but the bar staff found us a table in the adjoining dining room. It was a pleasant old fashioned room. Service was good despite the staff having to handle both the bar and the dining room. The food - a fish pie and fish and chips were done... More

This is a lovely little pub up the hill and is a perfect pit stop if your walking to or from your car park. Great beer selection and food is also nice This pub is a little dark and dingy due to a lack of sunlight getting into the insides The toilets are those of an outdoor barn. Floor is... More

We ate here on Easter Sunday. The food (Fish Pie) was excellent. The ale, Tribute was good too! The staff were very attentive and made us feel welcome. The great thing about the Volunteer Inn is that the noisy bar is completely separate to the dining area. Only slight negative was that they didn't have a high chair for little... More

It's not often you find a pub doing such good food! It's only small so would suggest you may want to book. We had a mackerel rarebit to start which was delicious. Strong, fresh mackerel flavours with cream and cheese. Rich and flavourful everything it should be. Mussels were delicious with a great sauce, and fresh bread for dunking! Great... More
