Delicious Meal

We ate here on Easter Sunday. The food (Fish Pie) was excellent. The ale, Tribute was good too! The staff were very attentive and made us feel welcome. This is a lovely little pub up the hill and is a perfect pit stop if your walking to or from your car park. Great beer selection and food is also nice This pub is a little dark and dingy due to a lack of sunlight getting into the insides The toilets are those of an outdoor barn. Floor is... More

It's not often you find a pub doing such good food! It's only small so would suggest you may want to book. We had a mackerel rarebit to start which was delicious. Strong, fresh mackerel flavours with cream and cheese. Rich and flavourful everything it should be. Mussels were delicious with a great sauce, and fresh bread for dunking! Great... More

Arriving late to our cottage we set off on a dark misty night in search of food. We headed for The Volunteer Inn, a beautiful old building, where welcomed by the friendly staff into a lovely newly refurbished dining room. The lounge bar was swinging but the dining area was calm and relaxed. We dined on locally caught fish and... More

Saturday night, and booked a table for 2 at 7.30. Initally surprised to find someone at our reserved table, but this was soon sorted out and we were seated. Invited to order our drinks, whilst being told that there was some delay on the meals. About to order a bottle of wine and go with the flow when we decided... More

We needed somewhere to sit near an open fire with our dog and enjoy an ale, do some work before our next gathering and this friendly accommodating pub absolutely fit the bill. They even let me charge up my tired phone. Fantastic 😃

Unusual starter.. Smoked mackerel rarebit! Try it.. Surprisingly good! We both had linguine with crab & prawn... Big portion! Needed extra olive oil, or butter, as a bit sticky. But just what we needed. Great staff, really friendly.
