The Volunteer Inn is a family-run, seventeenth century pub located in the heart of Lyme Regis in Dorset. One of the only remaining pubs on the high street, The Volunteer sells a range of local ales and ciders and has been a regular in the Good Beer Guide and a CAMRA member for over a decade. Although famous for it's ales, the Volunteer now also serves excellent food offering a daily changing menu.

Excellent

Popped in for lunch during the day at Lyme Regis. Very friendly waitress, who seemed to be working solo, attended to us promptly. Despite working alone, she managed to serve, check and assist all diners in the pub. Food was fantastic in a lunch point of view, but I have no advice or information on... read more

Visit every time we are in Lyme Regis. Unpretentious, traditional, welcoming. Good food, good value for money. Lovely to sit by the window and people watch.

If you like traditional pubs then this is the place to come....we always drink at the Volunteer when we come to Lyme Regis. It's just a decent old fashioned pub, friendly and very efficient staff. I'm not a beer drinker but my husband kept going back for more!!

We wanted a few pints in a proper pub after being out for dinner at Hix. This was spot on with a local feel, with many who had obviously been in there all day but it felt comfortable and nice. The toilets had obviously had a busy day but just as you'd expect in a beer pub. We'd drink here... More

We came to Lyme Regis last August but didn't try the Volunteer Inn, it didn't really appeal as there were always people hanging around outside the door. Anyway friends recommended it and as the TrR reviews were great thought we'd give it a try this year. First impressions are definitely misleading, this is a great pub. Interesting decor, quite quirky... More

This pub was recommended to us by a fellow camper. This is a real PUB! The staff is very friendly and a warm welcome is guaranteed. It is "dog friendly", so you can take your pooches in even when you or someone else is eating. They also serve real ale with a variable guest ale on tap at all times.... More

Busy little pub at the top of the hill on the main High Street - good atmosphere for a drink, ended up here this time for a bite as a busy Saturday and everywhere full, the bar was full but the little snug to the side is a restaurant serving the same good value food as the bar, good choice,...
