The Volunteer Inn is a family-run, seventeenth century pub located in the heart of Lyme Regis in Dorset. One of the only remaining pubs on the high street, The Volunteer sells a range of local ales and ciders and has been a regular in the Good Beer Guide and a CAMRA member for over a decade. Although famous for it's ales, the Volunteer now also serves excellent food offering a daily changing menu.

A Wonderful Local Pub !

A very good local quaint cosy pub which gets very busy, serving a variety of local ales and food We haven't eaten here but seems to serve local good food that gets sold out quickly! Very friendly staff ,and recommended

Saturday night, and booked a table for 2 at 7.30. Initally surprised to find someone at our reserved table, but this was soon sorted out and we were seated. Invited to order our drinks, whilst being told that there was some delay on the meals. About to order a bottle of wine and go with the flow when we decided... More

We needed somewhere to sit near an open fire with our dog and enjoy an ale, do some work before our next gathering and this friendly accommodating pub absolutely fit the bill. They even let me charge up my tired phone. Fantastic 😃

..after a very tiring day you cannot beat a lively pub that sells good, local food to boot..a simple but sincere menu that caters for most tastes..the ladies had various fish dishes - perfect apparently - and I had a good ol' steak - perfectly rare as ordered..good beer choice although the wine list lacked a little choice..a lively disco... Unusual starter.. Smoked mackerel rarebit! Try it.. Surprisingly good! We both had linguine with crab & prawn... Big portion! Needed extra olive oil, or butter, as a bit sticky. But just what we needed. Great staff, really friendly.

We had a lovely meal here on a Friday night. The staff were very helpful in getting us a table as we had not booked. They shed to wait in the bar and then called us through when the table was free. My crab liguine was delicious. Would go there again.

Lyme has become very over priced for food recently but The Volunteer offers reasonably priced food that you'd hope and expect from a pub. No frills just tasty food washed down by excellent beers.

The food, atmosphere and service here, in my opinion is very good. I had the fish pie which offered generous chunks of fish with a tasty topping of cheesy mashed potato (yum). My partner had steak and chips with onion rings...except there were no onion rings. We asked the waitress where they were and she pointed to the sautéed onions... More

owner fitted us in without a booking on a busy Saturday evening. He gave a excellent impression of running the place single-handed, beer went down well, as did 2 brilliant local fish dinners.
