We've Always wanted to try Hix Oyster bar as I've heard the fish is excellent and was glad we went. The smoked salmon starter, prepared in house, was amazing and the grilled sea bass was massive. Try the sea buckthorn pudding! An attentive and friendlty service as well.

We had lunch at Hix oyster and fish house in late December. Food is OK, nothing special but does what it says on the tin. Service was very poor, there were multiple mistakes with our table throughout the lunch, delivered another tables food twice (by the same waiter) is just one of many. Our waiter was clearly new to the... More

I've been to Hix a few times now, while en route to (or returning from) Cornwall, or while staying in Lyme, and it's never disappointed. Lovely food (the lobster, if it's on the menu, is spectacular, and the fish fingers, which are always on the menu, are a delicious alternative), a great wine list, welcoming people, and the best view... We were surprised to find a table available for lunch midweek but perhaps a few too many people have been 'once bitten, twice shy'. Our starters were lovely as was my friends sea bass. However, my whole crab was very disappointing. The brown meat in the cavity was no more than a dessert spoon of brown slop. I mentioned it... More

This place has to be one of the best restaurants on the south coast of England. We went there for lunch with our young kids. Food was superb, His at his best. Simple but beautifully cooked fish, as well as super oysters! Kids menu is great, best fish fingers ever! Very efficient and friendly service, in an informal and relaxed... More

We made the table booking a couple of months in advance of our visit on New Year's eve. What was not explained at time of booking was that the reservation was for a pre-set dinner!! On the plus side we were greeted with a complimentary cocktails* With the initial shock over we joined the rest of the throng waiting for... More

Having heard that the oyster and fish house was well worth a visit a group of us booked for a special pre-Christmas treat. Sadly each and every one of us was very disappointed with both the presentation and quality of the food. In my view it is unacceptable for a restaurant of this supposed calibre, that one or two primary... More

I must say I was really surprised at some of the recent negative reviews. The last time I was here was two years ago and, yes,it had gone downhill. I understand it is under new leadership now and I must say our meal, and treatment was flawless.Initially we sat outside with a glass of champagne and enjoyed the view! Once inside we had... More

A group of ten us visited the restaurant on 9th December having booked as a pre Christmas treat. The food was very disappointing, everything overcooked, scallops with chorizo were like little balls of greasy fried fishy nothings. Fish pie was bland and uninspiring, sprats were fine , the bass was ordinary, fish fingers were dry. Crab soup was ok but... More
