Fantastic fish and friendly service

My wife and I minimooned in Lyme Regis recently and decided to visit Hix Oyster and Fish Bar due to a recommendation. The views were spectacular, the terrace was lovely and we were offered a drink on arrival. The manager was very friendly, outgoing and happy to accommodate. We were seated within... read more

The view from the restaurant is outstanding and undoubtedly a very attractive feature. However our experience otherwise was most disappointing due to the indifferent attitude of staff, poor food presentation, low quality ingredients, and small portions for the high prices charged. I cannot recommend it.

My wife and I had booked a 9.00pm table and were extremely well and professionally looked after by Sophie May and Jenny. Sophie was a chatty gem and managed to get us one of the best tables in the restaurant by the window with staggering views of the Cob. We shared a lovely smoked salmon starter followed by Fish fingers... More

The restaurant came highly recommended and I must say the location was stunning.Took a while to find a parking spot because it was Whitson week. I phone to say we would be 15 Minutes late but was told our table would be ready. On arrival we were asked to wait on the terrace and have a drink there. 15 Minutes... More

I found eating here a disappointing experience. Nothing innovative or unusual about any of the food we had. Yes it's nice fish, but I can fry a couple of pieces of fish in a frying pan myself, and serve with boiled veg with a knob of butter on. I hope for more when I am eating out in probably the... More

Birthday meal out with my wife. Fantastic table in the window overlooking the Cobb on a spectacular May early evening! The service was second to none, the food was wonderful, would strongly recommend. Slight reservations, dirty cutlery pointed out and adding 12.5% service charge to the bill...I guess possible to remove it but don't like that approach when already a... More

This was our second visit to this really lovely restaurant above the harbour at Lyme Regis. It's not a large restaurant, is decorated in a modern seaside style and we found everything really good. The service was excellent; friendly and attentive (I was asked twice about what I thought of the Fisherman's Spelt) and the food excellent. There's a really... More

The web site I visited was impressive but my lunch did not live up to my expectations .I was initially served a gull egg instead of the duck egg and asparagus I ordered .My lobster was slightly charred on top but otherwise tasty . I feel that these comments are justified by the high prices .Service could have been more... More

What an amazing restaurant! From start to finish we were treated like kings and to top it all we were served by a friendly, funny, smiling waitress! The food was of the highest quality, we had the best table in the restaurant and could not have wished for more. Hix is a great find and we could not recommend it... More

Stopped here on a busy weekend. Couldn't be seated at the time but we was quickly booked in for half an hours time. We had a seat on the terrace overlooking the sea. Bearing in mind it was busy we expected a long wait but the service was excellent and the food was amazing. Could not fault the food and... More
