Delicious food, worth a detour.

We booked for 6.30 for four. The service was pleasant and a good balance of attentiveness. The food was excellent . For starters; pressed ham hock and liver parfait were favourites, main courses; rabbit was sensational and plaice excellent. We paid £155 in total for 4 x 3 course meals plus bottle... read more

We had booked a table & received a good welcome. We had pre dinner drinks & waited about 35 minutes to then be seated for our food. The venison was excellent, full of flavour. The accompanying wine was also very good. But then, the service was painfully slow. A further 55 minutes passed before our pudding choice of cheese was... More

Visited the NA this evening after such great reviews and had a table booked in advance. After placing our order in the 'drinks area' we then waited 55 minutes to be seated which was rather annoying since the table was 'supposed' to be pre-booked. The wait between courses was quite lengthy also! Had the duck parfait to start, followed by... More

We were staying at the Great Western hotel near Blackawton and wanted somewhere to eat on the Saturday night. I checked Trip Advisor thinking that the best options would be in Dartmouth but was pleased that the number one was just a mile away from the hotel. We started with potted local crab and duck pate on brioche. Both dishes... More

Visited here for a birthday with family. Its a small and cosy but still lovely atmosphere. We arrived and were invited to sit by the fire, look at the menu and enjoy a nice drink. When our starters were ready we were seated to our table. The presentation of all the starters were beautiful and they did not disappoint in... More

Warm welcome and a comfortable atmosphere, The food and wine were delicious and the cooking puts many so called "restaurants" to shame. What a pity that we live so far away - I could eat here often. The four of us had different plates and each agreed their choices were excellent.

Visited the Normandy Arms on our wedding anniversary. The whole atmosphere and ambiance was cosy warm and intimate. We arrived slightly early and were invited to sit next next to the fire for a few drinks. No pressure was put on us to move to our table and we went when we were ready. The service was excellent and the... More

This is a small place, but the food is really very good indeed. I had rabbit with truffle mash and chanterelles, it was wonderful, very fragrant. There was a lovely warm fire going with some old leather sofas around. The wine list features some exotics, but the meals deserve better in my opinion.

This is the best restaurant in South Hams Devon. We have eaten there a number of times in the last few years and have always had excellent food. On this occasion we had as starters the trio of salmon and fried chicken livers and the venison and pork belly which were all excellent. We shared a lemon posset and cream... More

Really pretty place, wish we could have stayed, lovely welcome, log fire in reception. Trio of salmon, home smoked with freshly made tartar sauce, home made bread, lovely. Followed by belly pork perfect, also chicken livers with deep fried egg wonderful. Worth a visit!
