Stein's Fish & Chips boasts both a restaurant and takeaway, located in Padstow on the beautiful North Cornwall coast overlooking the Camel Estuary. You'll find a menu of cod and haddock together with a large range of local fish like hake, monkfish, John Dory and bass which is often landed right here on our doorstep in Padstow. Our fish is coated in our homemade batter and deep fried in beef dripping to make it really crisp and we serve our own mushy peas and curry sauce as well as our homemade mayonnaise-based tartare sauce.

Haphazard queuing system but great food!

Staying in Padstow for a week it just had to be done so we dutifully joined the queue to order our takeaway fish and chips. That was the easy part, the queue moved quickly and our order was soon placed, two cod and chips, cod bites and a scampi and chips. Picked up the yummy aioli as well then... read more

Best ever fish and chips EVER! Had the lemon sole fish, amazing. Tarte sauce wasn't really needed with it as the fish was beautiful on its own. Curry sauce, bit like a masala, it was amazing with the chips and tasted like a little bit of India with our typically British fish! Also had a couple of scallops for starters,... More

Fish was over cooked, batter was tasty and chips were fine. BUT portions were tiny for £8.50 for a cod and chips I'd expect a pretty generous serving of both.

The concept is good! Fresh fish, well prepared and tasty, easy served in paper boxes. The only negative is the time it takes to finally eat it! You can't book in advance... need to queue outside which is not too much of fun, when raining or you are super hungry 😜 I also like to have some nice gourmet sauces... More

The shared tables isn't something I like personally but that doesnt change the taste of the food. Had hake for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Whether it tastes as it should I couldn't say. I found the aioli more like a garlic butter. The chips were not flash and I've had better from a wee caravan on... More

Visited bank holiday Friday evening expecting big queues. Takeaway counter well run, organised and no queue at all (there was a bit of a queue for the sit down area next door). Ordered hake and chips, and grilled sea bass. Both were fantastic- best fish you could order, fresh, really simple and tasty. Chips excellent too. Short walk to Padstow... More
