Stein's Fish & Chips boasts both a restaurant and takeaway, located in Padstow on the beautiful North Cornwall coast overlooking the Camel Estuary. You'll find a menu of cod and haddock together with a large range of local fish like hake, monkfish, John Dory and bass which is often landed right here on our doorstep in Padstow. Our fish is coated in our homemade batter and deep fried in beef dripping to make it really crisp and we serve our own mushy peas and curry sauce as well as our homemade mayonnaise-based tartare sauce.

Lovely experience

Wanted to experience whilst on holiday. Can't book so we queued from 4.50 and was very lucky to just squeeze in to the 5 o'clock sitting. Lovely atmosphere service and choice from the menu and specials. Kids portions were ample. I had haddock my husband cod. Both lovely fresh fish and again... read more

We arrived at about 6:30 one evening at the end on July. After a total of 40 minutes spent in 3 different queues ..we queued to get in the 'place your order' queue ..then queued in the order queue to actually place our order .... then finally queued in the collection queue. It was all worth it though. The fish... More

Great gluten free fish and chips, good to be able to get them especially as my 9 year old son is coeliac. My wife is also coeliac and vegetarian so had chips as peas had malt vinegar in which was a shame. Also there is a vegetarian option but this is not gluten free. If this had been we would... More

I love the fish and chips here. The fish is the best. It is what I call proper fish with deep white flesh. The batter is lovely so are the chips. I could eat this meal every day, but it is not cheap.

My wife's very words when I asked her the cost were " just enjoy them"!! Being a true Yorkshireman, value for money is always important. Indeed they were lovely but at around £8 for once this is far more expensive than I'm used to paying. The shop being located right on the harbour side, transportation costs for the fish can't... After our day at Newquay zoo we always have takeaway here. Yet again my kids and grandkids were completely silent in their praise of the food.......... too busy eating to talk

They do gluten free in a separate area giving great confidence that there will be no tell-tale bits of batter (though I'm told they also do gf batter - not tried it yet!). The salmon is superb and the grilled mackerel is great - well worth waiting in the queue.

Couldn't believe how expensive the fish and chips were but this is Rick Steins and it was going to be a good portion of best quality food right? Wrong. We got the same sized portion as the small meal in our local chippy which is less than half the price and we couldn't tell any difference in taste between them.... More
