Description: The (tiny) tea garden is at the back of the two hundred year old...
The (tiny) tea garden is at the back of the two hundred year old 'Coastguard Houses' at Hawkers Cove, on the Coastal Path, 150m from the slipway at Hawkers Cove beach and enjoys fantastic views across the Doom Bar and mouth of the Camel Estuary, to Polzeath and Daymer Bay. We serve hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes, quiches and pies, homemade soups, filled jacket potatoes, made to order sandwiches, cream teas, ice creams and various snacks.(Our cream teas and our crab sandwiches are getting rave reviews). We have also started baking our own Gluten Free scones (and some cakes), so can now offer possibly the best gluten free cream tea in Cornwall. We are 'Dog Friendly', welcoming well behaved pooches with a fresh bowl of water and biscuits. The tea garden is, literally, a garden, with no inside seating and is consequently very 'weather dependent' so if the weather is at all 'unsettled', we would advise that you phone ahead to make sure that we are open. The tea garden will be open 7 days a week (weather permitting) from Easter to October. Unfortunately we don't have any parking facilities, so suggest that you park in the car park and walk along the coast path, or park on the road to Hawkers Cove and walk down the hill, (approx 500m). The tea garden is situated behind the top row of houses. We accept most Credit/Debit Cards. Please come and see us.... You will be made most welcome!

Tranquil and so welcoming

We were delighted to find this special tea garden open when we walked from Stepper Point on our way to Padstow. It oozes peace and tranquility, surrounded by lovely plants, a marvellous view, and great service and menu. We look forward to our next visit.

Just passing on my way to Stepper Point, brilliant Tearoom. The Crab Sandwich is outstanding. Highly recommended

Thanks for the lovely review, your very kind comments and recommendation. The crab sandwiches are proving to be very popular! Plenty of locally caught white crab meat, mixed with a small amount of Hellman's mayonnaise, lemon juice and a few freshly chopped chives served on your choice of white or wholemeal bread with a salad garnish and a bucket of... Great spot for a Cornish afternoon tea, great food and even the gluten free scones were a hit. Trust your instincts, it's a little hard to find but follow the signs and you'll get there

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I’m so glad that you enjoyed your visit to our tiny tea garden. We make our gluten free scones using exactly the same recipe as our 'normal' scones, but use gluten free flour and baking powder. We use Cornish butter, Cornish eggs and Cornish buttermilk in our recipe now and... More

Thanks for taking the time to write such a lovely review! I’m so glad that you enjoyed your visit to our tiny tea garden. We are becoming known for our gluten free cream teas and as there seems to be a demand for it we are baking gluten free versions of our very gingery ginger cake and our lemon drizzle... More

Once again we visited the establishment as part of a circular walk. This is a little gem of a place serving food and drink through a kitchen window. My wife and I shared a cream tea and the staff spotted our dog and gave her dog biscuits, a nice touch. The views are wonderful and cakes very tasty. The third... More

Thank you for the glowing review. We are dog friendly and try to offer dog biscuits when we notice dogs on the decking, although we sometimes miss the quiet, well behaved dogs, when we are busy. Please tell as many people as possible about us. We are looking forward to your fourth visit, next year. More

We walked from Padstow to Hawkers Cove and asked someone on the beach if there was a tea/coffee shop nearby. We were directed to "Rest a while" and what a joy! Great coffee, amazing views and so friendly staff. I asked about toilets and was invited to come round the front of the house and use their home bathroom! Will... More

We visited on a cool day in April this year, having walked past several signs on our route along the coast path. What a serendipitous find. Delicious cream tea and cakes. We are on our way back to cornwall tomorrow and plan to 'rest a while' again!

Travelling to 'Rest a While' by car we did find it hard to find. There is good sign posting around the footpath but not at cliff lane junctions! However we smiled with glee when we did eventually find this very small café. Luckily we didn't have to wait too long for seats, though others were queuing down the footpath. A... More

Thanks for taking the time to write such a lovely review! Sorry that you had trouble finding us. By car, head for Hawkers Cove and park anywhere on the road before the 'No Parking or Turning Ahead' sign. From there, it is a 500m (approx) walk to the tea garden and well sign posted when you get closer. Please tell... More
