Description: The (tiny) tea garden is at the back of the two hundred year old 'Coastguard Houses' at Hawkers Cove, on the Coastal Path, 150m from the slipway at Hawkers Cove beach and enjoys fantastic views across the Doom Bar and mouth of the Camel Estuary, to Polzeath and Daymer Bay. We serve hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes and quiches, homemade soups, filled jacket potatoes, made to order sandwiches (including locally caught fresh crab), cream teas (probably the best in Cornwall), ice creams and various snacks. We have also started baking our own Gluten Free scones. The tea garden is, literally, a garden, with no inside seating and is consequently very 'weather dependent' so if the weather is at all 'unsettled', we would advise that you phone ahead to make sure that we are open. The tea garden will be open 7 days a week (weather permitting) from Easter to 31st October. Unfortunately we don't have any parking facilities, so suggest that you park in the car park on the road to Hawkers Cove and walk along the coast path, or park on the road before entering the gateway to Hawkers Cove and walk down the hill, (approx 500m). We accept most Credit/Debit Cards. Please come and see us.... You will be made most welcome!

The Rest a While is always on our itinerary when in Padstow and it was good to be there on a warm sunny day. The food and service remains excellent and I can honestly say I was served the biggest piece of cake ever - just as well we had a long walk either side of the visit to burn... More

Forget the centre of Padstow with all its crowds. It may be a bit of a hike but certainly well worth it. Good coffee, lovely cakes and certainly better priced than the restaurants in the town centre.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a lovely review! 'Simple and perfect' sounds good to me. We always have a bowl of fresh water available for thirsty pooches and as Tregirls Beach and Hawkers Cove allow dogs, we like to think that we are dog friendly. Please tell as many people as possible about us and come back... More

We visited this cafe twice whilst walking from Trevone to Padstow. It is a wonderful place which has a quaint atmosphere and idyllic views over the Camel Estuary. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. The garden was very pretty. It is ideal on a sunny day, as there is no indoor seating, but we would... More

On our last full day we went back to lovely Padstow and decided to do a coastal walk and spotted a sign for Rest A While but walked on. On the way back we stopped again at the sign. You can't see the garden from the coastal path as you pass, and as we looked up the narrow path that... More

On a walk to stepper point , a pleasant pause was here . Good views of estuary whilst enjoying a drink and tray bake . Only downside is the walk round to the toilet - leave a donation for the RNLI

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Many people are surprised to find us out in the sticks. I’m so glad that you enjoyed your visit. I'm sorry that the toilet trip was a 'downside' for you. The nearest public toilets are in Padstow approximately two miles away, so most people, desperate for the loo are very... More

Had fantastic sandwiches one of egg and tomato, and one of cheese, fantastically fresh and excellent value for money, proven by the fact we were in Cornwall for 8 days had sandwiches for lunch every other day at different eating places and nothing compared to Rest A While. The size of the cakes for desert was massive and we'll worth... More
