We booked the area outside before we arrived in Padstow and was not told it was Carnival Night! We arrived and had good seats but soon the reception area was full of people and we were eating in a crowd, no view only the backs of people. Even the waitresses and the chef stood in our way!. Many of the... More

Had breakfast here while staying at the lovely Strand House b&b opposite. Enjoyed the food very much and would have given five stars overall but size of tea pot much too small, especially for breakfast time. Don't remember the exact price for the tea, just remember feeling that it was expensive for the quantity.

We visited the basement for a late lunch on a busy Friday afternoon in August. There were plenty of tables available as we were quite late for lunch - 2pm. We sat outside in the covered seating area which was sheltered from the wind. The service was good, the waitress was prompt with our drinks order; the Padstow pale ale... More

LUNCH Start with the positives... Front of house staff were friendly, helpful & got the dog a bowl of water(sweet) Small points..... Good choice of interesting bits on the menu, but wild mushrooms in the middle of summer??? Bit out of season. No vinaigrette on the table. Could do with a little back ground music. Ordered one veggie Caesar salad... More

As it was summer, it was difficult to find anywhere to book in for dinner. We managed to get a booking at The Basement (sitting in covered glass area) for 9pm. You may think that by that time of night, the servers would have lost their sparkle, but not at all. I tried a local white wine. It was as... More

Our family party of nine were made to feel very welcome for our lunch time visit. The service was very efficient and the food was lovely. We had the best fishcakes ever and a lovely bottle of Muscadet . The meal was great value too.

We had a very enjoyable evening at the Basement. We sat outside which was fine however we did wish they had turned the heaters on a little earlier than they did at 10.00pm. Saying that the food was delicious and we would go back.

Excellent, sensibly priced food served by very pleasant staff. It does get more expensive and upmarket in the evenings but we have always had lunch at The Basement and never been disappointed.
