Friendly Place Something Different

This is a stunning place to sit, eat, drink chat and seriously relax. A beautiful sailing barge at the quay with stunning views of the harbour and salt marshes. As can be expected a nautically themed venue which serves real ale and dutch cuisine (pancakes, sweet & savoury & omellettes) All... read more

I've spent many a day chilling on the deck of The Albatros; enjoying the delightful cask ales, and the fabulous pancakes. So, when it came time to spend a weekend away with a bunch of lads, it seemed logical to venture into the bowels of the ship and experience life as a sailor might have (without the hard work and... After our first choice of restaurant appeared extremely busy, we headed for this ship as we had already decided to come here after we had eaten. We were glad we did. The ship offers a wide range of sweet and savory pancakes but also other Dutch specialties. We opted for the Dutch Indonesian Chicken Satay, which was extremely tasty and... More

I was treated to mulled wine and a delicious chicken pancake aboard the wonderful Albatros while being entertained with lovely Irish/British folk music and song by the duo 'Icini Rising'. We later ordered Belgian waffles with toffee sauce, chocolate and ice cream and although the chef was on his two hour break and the kitchen not due to open until... More

I had been meaning to pop aboard this Dutch Masted Barge that time were in Wells and so glad we did this time, there were a band playing called the Meccanos? I think who were fabulous and female singer could hit all the notes. The food appeared to be either pancakes of a sweet or savory nature and looking at the... More

Its a bar restaurant and music venue. We only had coffees but we wished we had not have eaten as the food looked good. We spent a happy hour below decks listening to some sea shanties. I would love to stay over night I'm sure it's an experience!!! I'm afraid it's not for less able bodied as it's quite a... More

Was told we were going somewhere a little different but not quite ready for this, it's on board a boat! An old Dutch sailing barge, moored at the quayside, you can sit on deck or go below, excellent beer but the pancakes were superb, between the 6 of us, we had 4 savoury & 2 sweet ones, all of which... On a freezing January evening the bar below the deck provided a welcoming, informal venue for a lovely evening meal. The Nelson's Revenge served straight from the barrel was extremely well kept and the savoury Dutch pancakes were delicious. I particularly recommend the spinach and boiled egg pancake!!

After many previous visits for pancakes etc we spent 2 nights on board in the Captains Cabin.... Like Marmite,You'll love it or hate it.But I think most overnighters will know what to expect as the B& B isnt widely advertised, so most will discover the cabins when on a day trip.and it will either be your thing... Or it wont.... More

No sign of John Cleese or the other Pythons on our visit to this Dutch sailing Barge moored in the harbour at Wells-next-the-Sea. John might have needed to stoop a bit to visit the bar below deck, where a wonderfully friendly atmosphere pervades, provided by the wonderful service and friendly owners and staff, good food, marvellous mussels and perfect pancakes...
