I can't believe how the Bay Horse has gone down hill. The poor young lady waiting on was exceptional but the food was terrible.

We have eaten before and had a good standard of meal for a small local country pub so decided to get on our push bikes and go for tea after returning from holiday. Our starters were all lovely but the mains really let down the whole evening. My meal was ordered from the specials menu and was nothing but bland... More

Nice little pub with food that's definitely above average - not posh but decent pub food done properly. The fish and chips are excellent. Helpings generous. Friendly too with an open fire for when it's chilly out.

I lived around the corner in Dalton House for quite a few years and loved this pub. It is my favourite "local" with great pub grub and beer. Not gastro or posh but a great Cumbrian pub. One day I will be back.

We eat here regularly living not too far away and the food is excellent, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and the surrounding real English country pub. All the food is good but do try the rump steak, locally sourced and, in my opinion, much tastier than fillet when properly butchered and cooked. The pork and black pudding stack should... More

The food and beer were excellent - particularly the pea and ham risotto starter. What ruined our stay was a dull whirring noise all night which meant that sleep was close to impossible even with earplugs. It turned out to have been the extractor fan from the kitchen. The attitude next morning was to laugh it off - "Oh dear,... More

My wife and I went here for dinner. So far this is the best tasting food in all of England. I would definitely recommend a stop here. Hospitality is awesome and the ambiance is very warm and what I would say is an authentic pub style eatery.

On second attempt managed to book into this busy Restaurant. Definately worth it. Service and food were lovely.

Stayed here for two nights back in the winter. While you couldn't fault the food, the rooms were just weird! Hoovers left in the hallway, handles missing from the bathroom windows, no beside lights. Room opposite ours had been vacated and not cleaned; and the door had been left wide open for all to see the mess! Hammers and tools... More

Stopped off for a beer and a bite to eat one lunchtime after walking. The pub was quiet but the welcome was friendly. A choice of real ales - the Hobgoblin was excellent, and plenty to choose from on the menu. The food is locally sourced where possible and was well cooked. Will certainly call back again.
