Sunday afternoon in Hungerford with the family and dog. Prices were good, we all ate off the £5.99 menu. Food was good, good sized portions and tasty. Service was good and we had a very pleasant Sunday afternoon.

Gave this place a 3rd chance as it's perfectly located for us and has good beer choices but I will never ever eat in here again, the food was atrocious and that's kind, plus it took ages and yet it was empty. 8oz steak was about 2oz and peas had been re-cooked about 3 times and that was the nicer... What a disappointment our lunch was, over the last few months the quality and portion sizes have gone downhill in a big way. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes for our main courses yet it was not busy. The cherry tomato pasta was the smallest pasta portion I have EVER seen (laughable) and it was stone cold. The ham... Worst Sunday lunch ever. Over priced for such small portions. Was told we did not need to book but on arrival told no tables were available. We were given a table and only four others came in whilst we were there. Staff useless, had to ask for mustard, apple sauce and horseradish. Three seperate orders were brought to our table... More

No idea why I keep giving this place a go am just burning money away. After the problems of Father's Day decided to go back and have a meal. It cannot be fresh food more like microwave Phillip Dennis produce. Food is cheap because it's terrible quality and will make you I'll if your used to eating well. Staff look... More

I met a friend at the Bear for dinner. We walked into the restaurant by a sign it wait to be seated - no sign of staff. Eventually we were shown to a table set for 2. The restaurant had about 6 other people in it and there were lots of empty larger tables. We requested a larger table as... More

If I'd never been to The Bear I'd be a bit put off by some of these negative reviews so really felt I needed to share my experience to level things up. My partner and I are looking to move to the area and first visited The Bear on a hot summer's day when we sat outside in the ample... More

Last year I visited The Bear with my family and enjoyed a light lunch. Today I went with friends and felt embarrassed for having suggested that we went to The Bear. We arrived at 12.45 and stood in the area where a board proclaimed, "Wait here to be seated". We waited. And waited. And waited some more. People were dining... More

Enjoyed a nice meal here consisting of a steak and ale pie with complete shortbread crust and gooseberry crumble with hot custard. Pleasant seating inside and out (in nice weather). A good selection of beer on tap is available

What an appalling lunch, even by English provincial standards. Overcooked fish, greasy chips, slow service, coffee served with ice cream sundae spoons. The waitresses really couldn't have cared less, and seemed to be in conflict with whatever management there may have been. Time for some effective and observant management.
