A lovely pub with just OK food. The Bear is absolutely the most historic site in Hungerford, with William of Orange meeting James II's commissioners and then William coming back through as king. The pub is beautiful and sits right on the River Dun. Unfortunately it's now part of the Old English Inn chain and the food is just standard... More

Thank you for taking the time to review the Bear, in it's current guise, as you rightly state, it is part of Old English Inns, which provide standard menus throughout the division, the nearest to the Bear being the Castle and Ball in Marlborough. We are sorry that the pie was incorrectly cooked and the staff have had the importance... More

Ate in the bar on Sunday lunch time and was pleasantly surprised to see them not just serving Sunday roast but a full menu. We had the 2 meals for £11.99 which also had alot of add on's for bigger better meal, or starters and pudding. The whole dinner and drinks experience was well timed and great value for money.... We walked in the main entrance there were staff here but no greeting to welcome us and no offer of assistance of where to go or how to order. We had to go to the bar to order. There were no specials available and the menu on the internet did not match the limited one they had. We were there... More

We went for dinner with friends just recently and all together, it was a most enjoyable evening. We sat in the Restaurant and the food was generally fine, although the Beef & Ale Pie contained little meat of any consequence. The flavor of the food was good although I wouldn't recommend this particular dish. We had previously eaten in the... More

Went for a bar meal wuth our two children. My husband's fush and chips came out very crispy and dry. We complained they then bought out his replacement meal but myself and children had finished ours! They did send a large piece of fish, but sadly had just refried his original chips. The fish was tasteless. My husband refused to... More

Thought I would give this place another go as had previously had a poor quality meal there with family and this visit was no different. I took my Son for lunch as it was local and not very busy compared with other places in the area on a Saturday lunchtime, We ordered a children's Big Cheesy Burger from the Kids... More

I'd only been back to the Bear once before since Greene King became the latest owner and had heard mixed reviews so a business meeting over lunch seemed like a great opportunity to make up my own mind. I'd not parked there last time so discovering it would cost £2.50 to pay and display in an understandably near empty car... More

The food here's not at all bad - a good choice, reasonably quality and not expensive. The problem was the wait. It took 1/2 hour for our starter to arrive (just bread and oil!). It took 2 hours to complete our family lunch - if this was a 5 star restaurant that would be acceptable but it isn't even close.... More
