Enjoyed a nice meal here consisting of a steak and ale pie with complete shortbread crust and gooseberry crumble with hot custard. Pleasant seating inside and out (in nice weather). A good selection of beer on tap is available

What an appalling lunch, even by English provincial standards. Overcooked fish, greasy chips, slow service, coffee served with ice cream sundae spoons. The waitresses really couldn't have cared less, and seemed to be in conflict with whatever management there may have been. Time for some effective and observant management.

The food in here was really tasty and fairly reasonably priced. Me and my friend both enjoyed our meals and drinks; the wine was really good, can't remember the name of it though! The interior itself is rather interesting, I would definitely say it is worth visiting.

Meal for 6 on a Monday night in the restaurant. It was quite, as expected for Hungerford on a Monday. The food was OK, I had Ultimate burger which was a touch over done and very big. One of my colleagues has Pulled Pork burger, with no chips or bun, that looked nicer. The pie and veg looked a bit... More

I last visited The Bear 35 years ago when they served superb gourmet seven course meals. Then we moved away. So when a friend suggested we meet up for lunch half way between our homes, I jumped at the change to sample their menu and revisit the place. The Bear looked great and very smart from the outside, however the... More

We went for lunch at The Bear last week. My wife had their beef and ale pie which was highlighted as being good. The pie was OK, although the pastry was not "short" - she could bang it with her knife without it breaking! However, the vegetables were awful, so overcooked the green beans had gone wrinkly. We asked for... More

My Aunt treated my wife and I to lunch here. Unfortunately the food was typical of many "cheap" lunch menu's and was thoroughly disappointing. To finish off the meal the staff going off shift forgot to mention to the staff coming on duty that there was food ordered so having waiting 25 minutes for a dessert to arrive we found... More

There is something very wrong about the negative reviews since The Bear changed ownership last year. We were delighted with the value for money and relaxed and peaceful surroundings. Ample space inside and out, good wine selection and guest ale. Four of us selected the Lamb Shank followed by sweets from the special of the day menu. Service was prompt... More
