My friends and I booked the Bear for a birthday meal last night. There were 15 of us and some had travelled a fair distance to celebrate my friend's birthday. There was no welcome when we arrived. The table was ready, but unfortunately was a mismatch of tables that varied in heights. For the poor people who had had the... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a thorough review of our shortcomings, as most people that read trip advisor 'reviews' are aware, the majority of 'reviewers' who 'review' for the first time do so because they have a particular whine or whinge to moan about. We are pleased that your table was ready for you when you arrived... More

I had booked a table for lunch (for the second time) and then I read the reviews of 'The Bear'. I was of a mind to cancel given the severe criticism of other, recent, reviewers. However, we (4) kept our nerve, went for coffee, stayed for lunch and are at a complete loss to relate to the criticisms of this... More

Thank you for taking the time to review The Bear. We are pleased you found everything to your satisfaction and have chosen to praise us on here, good reviews mean so much to the team here and go along way to offsetting the sometimes personal and deflating reviews that have become part and parcel of the complaints culture we have... Went there while on a business trip in the area for dinner. The portions were huge and very filling but I still managed to have space for the dessert in the title. It was recommended to me and I will recommend it to everyone I talk to!

There was 8 of us who met here for lunch on Saturday. We got married there in March so it was lovely to be back and we received a warm reception from the team. After reading the reviews prior we were a bit anxious (perhaps thinking it had changed hands as our wedding food was incredible) but once again we... More

Sunday afternoon in Hungerford with the family and dog. Prices were good, we all ate off the £5.99 menu. Food was good, good sized portions and tasty. Service was good and we had a very pleasant Sunday afternoon.

Gave this place a 3rd chance as it's perfectly located for us and has good beer choices but I will never ever eat in here again, the food was atrocious and that's kind, plus it took ages and yet it was empty. 8oz steak was about 2oz and peas had been re-cooked about 3 times and that was the nicer... What a disappointment our lunch was, over the last few months the quality and portion sizes have gone downhill in a big way. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes for our main courses yet it was not busy. The cherry tomato pasta was the smallest pasta portion I have EVER seen (laughable) and it was stone cold. The ham... Worst Sunday lunch ever. Over priced for such small portions. Was told we did not need to book but on arrival told no tables were available. We were given a table and only four others came in whilst we were there. Staff useless, had to ask for mustard, apple sauce and horseradish. Three seperate orders were brought to our table... More

No idea why I keep giving this place a go am just burning money away. After the problems of Father's Day decided to go back and have a meal. It cannot be fresh food more like microwave Phillip Dennis produce. Food is cheap because it's terrible quality and will make you I'll if your used to eating well. Staff look... More

I met a friend at the Bear for dinner. We walked into the restaurant by a sign it wait to be seated - no sign of staff. Eventually we were shown to a table set for 2. The restaurant had about 6 other people in it and there were lots of empty larger tables. We requested a larger table as... More
