Was great, now a let down! Disappointing

The Bear was always a great place to eat, Old English come along and totally ruin it. Food is cheap so we've given it 4 chances and only 1 of those visits was actually average and acceptable. One visit i had lasagne and partner had fish and chips, cut lasagne in half and stone cold in middle, they... read more

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime for a drink and was surprised how quiet it was. We sat in the garden overlooking the river/stream and for such a lovely setting thought more people would be there but this meant we had a lovely relaxing time. We called in again the following day for their Sunday Roast. It was more busier but... More

Great lunch, two meals for £11.99. Friendly service and very good lasagne and fish and chips. Nice surroundings inside or in the court yard.

What a lovely building and smart interior - but is it really necessary to ask customers to pay to park in the restaurant car park - hardly an inviting start to an evening ! Friendly staff In the restaurant and good efficient service - but bland pub food served in the restaurant with nothing cooked from fresh - a real... More

Thank you for your review, the car park charges have been revisited in the last few weeks. They are designed to stop people from parking there all day without using The Bear. They apply Mon-Fri 8-11am and 2-5pm. Kind Regards Team Bear More

A lovely pub with just OK food. The Bear is absolutely the most historic site in Hungerford, with William of Orange meeting James II's commissioners and then William coming back through as king. The pub is beautiful and sits right on the River Dun. Unfortunately it's now part of the Old English Inn chain and the food is just standard... More

Thank you for taking the time to review the Bear, in it's current guise, as you rightly state, it is part of Old English Inns, which provide standard menus throughout the division, the nearest to the Bear being the Castle and Ball in Marlborough. We are sorry that the pie was incorrectly cooked and the staff have had the importance... More

Ate in the bar on Sunday lunch time and was pleasantly surprised to see them not just serving Sunday roast but a full menu. We had the 2 meals for £11.99 which also had alot of add on's for bigger better meal, or starters and pudding. The whole dinner and drinks experience was well timed and great value for money.... We walked in the main entrance there were staff here but no greeting to welcome us and no offer of assistance of where to go or how to order. We had to go to the bar to order. There were no specials available and the menu on the internet did not match the limited one they had. We were there... More

We went for dinner with friends just recently and all together, it was a most enjoyable evening. We sat in the Restaurant and the food was generally fine, although the Beef & Ale Pie contained little meat of any consequence. The flavor of the food was good although I wouldn't recommend this particular dish. We had previously eaten in the... More
