10/10 for the fish and chips

We stopped here after a visit to Newgrange. Quirky little place with loads of character. Friendly staff who treated us well. Several locals enjoying lunch here too so we knew it must be good. On a scale of 10, the fish and chips were tops.

Dropped in here on the way through Slane for lunch with no expectations except to get a sandwich. Prawn and Pastrami open sandwiches were outstanding. Really great and amazing value.

When I am visiting relatives in Slane this is the restaurant I go to for my breakfast sometimes if I don't get up in time for breakfast then I will go here and have the mixed grill for lunch, very nice waiting staff, reasonably priced, its small but quaint and the food is always good. Everytime I go its busy... More

Took a trip to see Newgrange dropped into Slane for a bite to eat, I got served the most horrible bitter tomato soup I have ever had the experience to taste. There was no apology and we were not charged obviously. My friends had the pastrami sandwich which was a bit dry but edible, the fish and chips were nice and both looked... The building has been lovingly transformed into a charming restaurant having once served as the village post office there was a brusque lunchtime trade when I arrived but the staff seemed well in control and were most welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent I had the steak sandwich and it was perfectly cooked and a good sized portion. A... More

When we entered, it was way too dark - almost hard to read the menu. The beer was obviously from a bottle, not from the tap - even if I ordered from the tap. The glass was not clean. The dishes were not good and the portions were small. I ordered a 340g piece of dry aged meat - but... More

End of season, really couldn't be bothered about us although the food was excellent. Well sourced ingredients and my Gaelic sauce on my steak was delectable but the main guy really left us alone while he laughed and talked to friends. Later he encouraged us to go over to the pub for a drink instead of having dessert and coffee.... More

We were heading from Monaghan to Leixlip yesterday and planned to stop off in Slane to have lunch in the hotel there but was closed to public for wedding and were advised to pop over road to the Old Post Office. In we went at about 3pm, very busy, table straight away, water and order taken. Food fab, service excellent... More
