Had the Caesar salade, that was amazing! The fish and chips is also very nice. Just the right amount of batter! The atmosphere is good. The people that work there are very friendly. We will come again!

Always wanted to try sticky coke bbq ribs and they were delicious. Then had the 120oz sirloin stake and as a desert lemon meringue pie. Also great! Visiting Slane? Visit this place for a nice meal!

I have now been to the Poets Rest on 3 occasions for an evening meal. On two occasions I've had their early bird option but this review is based mainly on my most recent visit. About 5 weeks ago. This restaurant is very eye catching from the outside and is the most appealing of all Slanes eateries. The restaurant was... More

Hi Derek, Thanks for taking the time to review. I'm a little disappointed at the negative feedback about the pizza and risotto as I remember serving you myself and when I asked how everything was, you had told me it was all great. Also a little confused as to why you'd wait 5 weeks to post a review too, which... More

We're just home after a great meal in the poets rest. Goats cheese for him and bruschetta for me to start, steak (really tender) for me and salmon for mains- fererro rocher and banoffe for dessert- all so tasty- plus a bottle of wine for 60e. Amazing value and fantastic service! We'll be back soon!

Had a meal here with friends during the summer & really enjoyed it so a return visit was no surprise. Now I wish I hadn't. I'm just so frustrated at the lack of interest from the management. With a little love & attention to detail this place could be a huge asset to slane. Place felt cold even though they... More

Thanks for taking the time to review, we appreciate all feedback. That said, we'll also always respond to points that we feel are unwarranted. As the manager I take offence in the point that I lacked interest, I take an equal interest in all our customers, as we value them all. Our wine list is posted on our main chalk... More

No plans just a lazy Sunday drive in the country. Hungry we stopped in Slane outside the Poets Rest. Bit of a strange layout when you enter, you could nearly feel as if you are entering through the kitchen. However when all the formalities of seating and decisions are made the food speaks for itself. For mains we had the... More

Good food and a warm welcome. Only one small issue, no mashed potato and no custard on the first night we visited (what's all that about). Didn't prevent us going back again though. We did arrive with no reservation and they coped really well with our party of 12. Cheers guys!

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to let us know how you got on. Apologies that you didn't have all your mash and custard needs met, can't imagine why... Our chefs have the biggest biceps from mashing spuds and whisking eggs for custard, so we can't understand why you went without, but we'll get to the bottom of it.... More

Had a meal on Saturday night here the food and service is excellent I particularly like the way your steak is served on a hot stone so you get your steak just the way you like it, disappointed with the decor on the inside as the outside looks so quant it's called the forge so I think the entrance to... Hi, Thanks for taking the time to review. We're delighted you enjoyed your steak on the stone, just one of the things we're famous for. Bit confused about the name "the forge"? Sorry to hear you didn't like the decor, we did refurbish in February this year and it's the first time it's been described as drab. Still, we take... More

We really enjoyed our meal here. The food was just fabulous and the service was excellent. The food was served hot and the wait wasn't bad at all. We had an excellent meal. Crab claws, stir fry, Calimari, pizza, and lamb - the diversity of the menu is impressive, if a bit odd. The dessert was the highlight - "Mississippi Mud Pie" really wasn't mud pie at all, but was a terrific hot chocolate fudge cake. It was terrific. The lemon merengue pie was also excellent. Certainly worth... More
