Great food, service chaotic

Our table was booked for 8.30 on Saturday night, we were seated at 9.55, now considering there were only 2 of us, this was unacceptable. On the plus side we did have a couple of delicious cocktails while we waited. Food was excellent and very well presented we both had oysters to start, I had... read more

Firstly yes the food is great, excellent even but to me the experience of going out for a nice meal is massively affected by the service received. To begin with they tried to tell us there was no room for a pram even though inside there was a sleeping 6 month year old baby. I'm not sure what we were... More

I think it's really poor that when my partner and I called here with our 3 children we were told we couldn't have a drink unless we were ordering food! Now I know lots of establishments have this rule and I would understand if the place was full but it was completely empty! We have been on a lot of... More

On the way home from visiting family in Dublin we decided to go via Carlingford and have tea in Magee's we rang on the way and they could accommodate us. For starters I had prawn pil pil which was good and my partner had prawn tempura and crab with black bean relish. This dish was delicious! Really different. For mains... More

The food is fabulous here, mouth watering. Definitely worth a visit. It's really busy at the weekends so you need to reserve a table. The decor and atmosphere are lovely. Don't expect to sit for hours chatting over food though as staff be keen to get the table back for the next seating. The cocktails are expensive but tasty

Magee's looks attractive and Ghan House hotel where we were staying does not do dinner every evenong but will advise and book. Magee's is about five minutes' walk away, is well arranged and has attractively competent staff. The oysters which I had to start... More

Although I have visited the beautiful village of Carlingford many times, my first visit to Magees was Easter Sunday evening. The village was very busy and we were lucky to get a table in the almost full Magees. The food was excellent. My 'surf and turf' was easily the best I have had. The staff are friendly and attentive and... More
