Built in 1727, Ghan House is a 4* AA rated, fully restored, family run Georgian House now in its 20th year of continuous business with 16 years of awards and nominations (see bottom of page). We are one of the oldest private houses of its' type in Ireland a tree length from Medieval Carlingford with 3 acres of walled mature gardens. All of Carlingford's ancient buildings dating as far back at 1210; from King John's Castle, the Dominican Friary, Mint. Taaffe's Castle and old town wall are within a 2 minute walk from our front door. The Tholsel, Medieval Carlingford's old town gate is just 30 metres from our walls. We are in a wonderful location just one hour from both Dublin and Belfast and two of Ireland's three World Heritage sites are within easy driving distance - just 45 minutes to Newgrange and a 120 minute drive to the stunning Giant's Causeway. In addition the recently opened Titanic museum in Belfast and the Dublin Convention Centre are both just a one hour drive from our gates. Ghan House is an oasis of Georgian ambience, gardens and fine dining with beautiful views from every room of Carlingford Lough, The Mourne mountains or Slieve Foy . We have 12 bedrooms in total ~ 4 in the Main House (1 single and 3 double) and 8 Garden bedrooms located 10 yards to the side of the Main House. The combination of old world charm allayed with modern requirements seamlessly dovetail together to give a thoroughly unique experience. The individuality of the house lends itself to weddings, usually on an exclusive use basis, private dining for special birthdays & hen nights and corporate hospitality - all enjoying the comforts of a private bar, log fires & candlelight. We also have private parking, a lockable shed for bicycles and 2 little homes in the stable for dogs. We have a small dedicated team - Orla & Sarah in the office, Jenny & Olavi front of house, Theresa and Dearblaith serving breakfast and of course our award winning kitchen team led by Head Chef, Stephane le Sourne. All of this is overseen by Paul Carroll. His mother Joyce Carroll is semi-retired ~ she attends to the herb & vegetable gardens, the flowers in the house, some cookery demonstrations and visits to approximately 11 grandchildren.

Tasteful tasting menu

We dined here as part of a large group! We all had the six course tasting menu! We enjoyed it but were a little underwhelmed by the food! Maybe we expected more but we were disappointed with parts of it! I know tasting menus are generally small portions but some of these were very small! Overall it was a pleasant... More

My husband dined here last night for our Wedding anniversary. We pursued a delightful menu in the cosy bar before heading up for our meal. The crab claw chefs appetiser was to die for, beetroot ice cream and goats cheese cleansed the pallet for our melt in the mouth lamb and charred grill leeks and then creme brûlée 😍 We... More

Me and my crew of seafarers had a jolly evening in this fine establishment. Hearty food and some decent grog (an interesting and good selection of wine). The private dining room was grand, we really felt like we could make it our own and the staff were nice and accommodating. The entertainment was questionable although as we were providing that... Ate here with friends to celebrate a special occasion. We attended the wine tasting class which was very enjoyable and interesting. The restaurant was nice although for a number of us the food was a bit short in meeting our expectation. The soup starter was warm but not as hot as would be expected. 3 steaks were ordered and each... More

We used a blue book voucher to stay in the hotel and also dine. The room was perfectly fine albeit a little tired in some areas but not at the standard you suspect they are looking for. The website does suggest that they are aiming at the upper end of the hotel experience. The dinner was overall, a little disappointing.... More

Pre dinner drinks in the lounge great. Great selection of wines - some unusual ones. Taster and a la carte menus interesting and hard to choose from. Food superb. Waiting staff superb

We had been given a present of dinner, bed & breakfast. Dinner was splendid, candle lit and by the window. The meal began with a amuse-bouche from the chef which was fun. Then first course of foie gras (for me) and (for partner) a ball of duck meat with sweet corn mousse. I very much enjoyed mine and I had... More

The meal had been anticipated for several weeks as a special birthday treat. We were not disappointed! We each went for the 33 euros per head mid -week tasting menu which had six perfectly sized courses, and a bottle of wine, suggested by the waiter, to accompany it. The cod and lamb courses were exquisitely cooked and presented. We enjoyed... More
