This is a difficult one, whether to give an average or very good. Having been there earlier this year for drinks which was great, I wanted to eat there also. You cannot beat the ambiance, traditionalism and quality of the beer there, But overall i left saying that was fine, but i so wanted to leave feeling it was great... More

We had fish and chips here on a lovely July evening. The service was fast and the food was good at a reasonable price. Staff were good. Nice walled yard to eat or drink in if the weather is good.

The food is lovely. The pub itself is lovely with a fab beer-garden. All of the staff were brilliant except for one bouncer who was extremely aggressive with customers and hopefully has been sacked by now.

The girlfriend, parents and myself dropped in here for a quick pint and some bar food to tide us over until later. The pub has old stone walls with a cozy fire at the end of the bar- to be honest the pints of Guinness were great and the setting was ambient. A perfect spot to relax in after a... More

Popped in to watch some sports, had several tasty pints and some food. Food was delicious, hot and served promptly. Might want to watch how some of the younger waiters serve food as one lad picked some loose chips of the tray with his hand and left them on a customers saucer!! There was also a great band playing in... More

I got a craving for chowder one afternoon and this was only place serving it. When it came I was not impressed. Wheaten bread was nice. But for what you get it's expensive. In fact the Five ways supermarket cafe in Newry does chowder which is much tastier and comes with garlic toasted bread. And is much cheaper.

I've been to PJ's several times now when visiting friends who live in Carlingford. Its a great pub with lots of rooms and nooks and crannies. And an outside garden courtyard. Lovely atmosphere. And the food is really good. My personal favourites are the goujons, chowder and grilled oysters. Will be going back!

It states on website, premier venue for hen parties in carlingford , never felt so unwelcome anywhere in my life., staff were unfriendly and rude, a group of men were heckling us when we were going to the toilets and the staff were giving off to us,we felt that uncomfortable that we had to leave after an hour and half,... This was a group visit with friends, who were celebrating a family birthday. It was my first time to eat in PJ O'Hares, while some of my friends had eaten here before. They highly regarded it for good food and atmosphere. Food was very good, generous portions, however there was an unfortunate mistake made when one of our orders were... More

After reading some reviews about the seafood chowder here we decided to drive the 60 miles to try it and are we glad we did. Combined with two lovely slices of their wheaten bread this is one of if not the best chowders we have ever tasted. The texture, taste and content were superb and seasoned perfectly. Lots of lovely... More
