Is this what a real Deli is like?

Being from the Pacific NW, New York Deli's are few and far between. We were in Tempe for spring training and I came across an ad for Chompie's , we just had to try it. When we walked in the first thing that "hit" us was the desert case, then the Bagels and the many varieties of "schmere... read more

My mother made the tastiest potato pancakes ever. I have attempted world-wide to find potato pancakes that matched my mother's in quality and taste. Last night at Chompies I found a very close second. i travel to Phoenix at least once a year and always insist in stopping at Chompies. Chompies is a delli that looks and smells "old world".... We have been here a dozen times and each time the food and service was worth the two or three times we had a short 10 or 15 minute wait. We will continue to eat here probably at least once a month.

First off, this place is nothing like an NYC deli. It's a diner, with tables and booth seating. That said, they do quite a fabulous job on their pastrami, and folks back in the Big Apple would all give thumbs up on taste and texture. But the star of the show was their Monte Cristo my son had. It was... More

Friends joined us here for breakfast, but were disappointed with all the sides possible, but not having grits available for their side. I enjoyed my omelet and appreciated having a gluten-free bagel. All of us had plenty of food, coffee and water. Our bill for 2 of us with an Greek omelet, bowl of oatmeal, and 2 OJ's was $32.00,... More

The food is amazing and is enough to feed you for a full days worth. The service is excellent and attentive. The taste and portions are off the charts. I would definitely become a regular patron if I lived in the area.

We visited Chompies in Tempe yesterday and I was a little surprised at how small the sandwiches have gotten. They are still stacked high like before but the bread slices seem much smaller from the last time.[$15.99 for Pastrami sandwich, fries and Cole Slaw] It's been awhile since I have come in but it seems like they have much smaller... Honestly, when the family suggested this place I was skeptical...My in-laws aren't as hard core about food the way my immediate family is. I love a good deli, and there are so few left in the US. I ordered the triple combo of salami, corned-beef & pastrami w/ slaw on rye. OMG, the heartburn that came after was *totally* worth... More

We've enjoyed Chompies food and service on our winter visits to Arizona. It's a wonderful deli -- the service is, good, the food is 'authentic deli (tasty and plentiful), and the desserts (you have to see them to appreciate them). Our advice -- GO!

If you've eaten at Katz Deli in NYC, you will feel right at home. I drive from the airport to Chompies for belly love. Then I pick up a pastrami for the plane ride back to Tampa. If the plane crashes, I happy that my last meal was from Chompies. ODER the brisket sliders, I an sure the serve them... More
