We were lucky to get a booking for our group of 8, but we were very happy we did. We had a set menu with five separate courses. This is no ordinary, run-of-the-mill Japanese sushi place. It is high-end quality food, crafted by excellent chefs. The tasting platter was superb, and the cockles in a broth was the best dish... More

My daughter and I had a 4-course chef choice dinner at Shinbay. Every dish was well prepared and delicate. Each dish was presented beautifully. Every course came out unexpectedly appealing. Most courses were very unique except the last one which was a dish of 5-6 different kinds of fish nigiri. The fishes were very fresh and good, except they are... More

We just enjoyed 6 courses of an Iron Chef-like dining experience. The quality of the fish and Kobe-style beef was superb. The sauces complemented each course extremely well where you could taste the main ingredient that was featured. This is definitely a must when I'm in the Phoenix area.

Had one of the very best Japanese dinners outside of Japan at Shin Bay, Scottsdale last night. Having lived in Tokyo for 22 years we think we know Japanese food, and this was a great example of the best. Don't be put off by the location in a nondescript strip mall. The decor is refined with excellent lighting and noise... More

We were welcomed very warmly upon arrival. Chef's choice menu, diner selects the number of courses. I selected 4, which were: fluke, a trio consisting of otoro, oyster and shrimp, wagyu beef, and nigiri. Dessert was pudding with mixed berries. Every item was superior in quality, as always. Drink menu has a large number of choices. The food is the... More

If you've ever been watching a travel or food channel show where the host goes speechless after tasting something so amazing, this is one of those places. I reserved my table a couple days early for the 6 course meal, and was it something else. Flavors I've never tasted before. This was also some of the best foie gras I've... More

Walk in the door at ShinBay and you are transported into a calm relaxing dining room where the service is attentive but not overbearing and the food preparation is all about attention to detail. Each course provides the diner with the perfect balance of flavors, textures and presentation - truly an art form worth appreciating! This is a dining experience,... More

Perhaps the only worthwhile restaurant in Scottsdale's culinary wasteland. The chefs are japanese. Everything on the menu is incredible and the room has a lovely swish feel. Small and reservations are highly recommended.

This is a sophisticated Japanese dining experience, a major leap from sushi, tempura and noodles -- even for actual Japanese. Presentation is delicate and deliberate, timing is of the essense, portions are small and the bill can mount up. If you have dined at similar restaurants in, say, expense-account Tokyo, you'll be ready for this; if not, be prepared for... More

We read that ShinBay was the best seafood restaurant in Phoenix and having moved here from Florida we made quick plans to try it out. Our anticipation was definitely rewarded. We selected the six course chef's tasting and while we were a little disappointed when the first plate was Amberjack, the rest of the courses were truly wonderful. The presentation... More
