I now know what is perhaps the most important job in a restaurant. The greeter/door staff can set the tone. In this case the front staff was brisk, accusatory and didn't take the time to understand a question. So that didn't start it off so well. I was there with my mother-in-law who doesn't hear well. I asked if there... More

I was in Payson recently to play in a men's soccer tournament. Some of the team visited El Rancho since it was close to some of our teammates' hotel. The restaurant has a nice authentic atmosphere. A reservation was made for 15 people; we were seated in proximity but not all together. It just was not a great experience all... More

We enjoyed a hearty Mexican lunch. Everything was tasty, service was friendly; nothing was very disappointing and nothing was outstanding.

This place had a pretty full parking lot, so I figured I was making a good choice. I was very wrong. Service was slow and all the servers wanted nothing more than for the evening to end. Chips and salsa were boring and watery and the margarita was all sugar water and froth. The entree was obviously straight from the... More

Many of our friends eat here often, but my husband and I avoid it like the plague. We eat here only when our friends out-vote us because we always go home with indigestion and the food is not even close to being authentic Mexican cuisine. If you aren't really into Mexican food, you may like eating here.

We were coming back home from a trip to Phoenix and my wife asked if we could do Mexican. We had nothing to go on other than signs we saw on the way to Payson, so we took a shot and tried El Rancho. Good choice! Very good choice! I really prefer Tex-Mex and it has not been easy to... More

this is near our Majestic Mountain Inn where we stayed, so we tried it, as the lobby clerk at the Inn said it is good also. We weren't disappointed. had a good meal there and would go back again...

Everything we tried consisted of watery refried beans, canned tomato sauce and a small amount of dark bitter mystery meat. Worst Mexican food ever. Will never return.

The food is ok and the service was ok. Not a lot to write about because I wasn't impressed but it wasn't bad either. The chips and salsa were really good and we didn't have to wait. It was our second time going there.

We visit the Payson area twice a month during the hot summer months and have eaten at El Rancho on several occasions. The service has always been great and the food has always been average tasting to very tasty! My wife usually orders fish or shrimp taco's and I have ordered shrimp/beef fajita's, beef or chicken burrito's OR cheese Enchilada's.... More
