I don't like Mexican food, but I liked El Charro

My cousins were here and wanted to go to El Charro because the night before they had been to the original one downtown. They were staying in a condo in Oro Valley and the 6 of us didn't want to drive downtown. They said it was as good as the one downtown, I haven't been to that one yet. But,... read more

Phoenix has some great Mexican options for food but this is the best I have encountered here in the Southwest! The waiter was knowledgeable of the menu items and provided us a taste of the dish we were contemplating ordering. The carne seca platter and chicken tinga were outstanding! It was such fun to interact with the waiter and hear... More

A group of us (6 adults and 2 kids) attended El Charro for father's day. We were sat promptly as we made a reservation before hand. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful to all the people in our group. Quickly our drinks were brought out and our order was taken. Everyone seemed happy with their food when it arrived.... Perfect food and margaritas. They really take care of you at this location. I like the food better at this location than the downtown restaurant. No complaints. Will come here often.

We took all our employees and their spouses (14 total) for our usual year-end group dinner in late December 2014, on a weekday night. Had a reservation for a "private area" but were seated in the middle of the restaurant. The place was packed and the service was poor. Drinks took forever and a day. I had to personally take... We were taken for lunch by our tour guide, Michael from Reisen Arizona Tours. The setting is cool and you can feel the history. It was great to get the backstory while we were there. The Carne Seca was really good and tasty. I'd skip the Chicken Mole, as though pleasant enough, it wasn't stellar. The service was friendly and... More

Others have said "don't bother...there are better Mexican restaurants to go to." Really?? We certainly haven't found them. Their chili rellenos (get them with the sauce on the side, so the outside is crispier) are among the best, and their fundido to start is worth the calories. Plus, really, the atmosphere! It's fun, people, especially if you can sit outdoors... More

Wonderful lunch here. Original taco plate, with rice and pinto bean sides, also the Two for Tucson plate with corn tamali, and sonoran enchilada. So good! Guac and chip starter, with tres leches cake, and churros plate for desert. Loved it all! Beautiful decor, and comfortable seating. Recommended!

We had a bad experience about a year ago so we thought we would give them another try....guess what...same bad service and very average food. This was our last try at this somewhat famous Tucson restaurant chain. We feel there are better Mexican restaurants in town and we will frequent them.

With El Charro now in a number of areas within Tucson makes it more convenient to dine. Very good value but watch the Margaritas !!!!!!!
