friendly art deco bar/café

This bar/café is a little gem. Staff are friendly and happy hour is until 12 midnight. The food looked fresh and lots of locals stop by on their way home for a beer, a chat and some food. Free peanuts and mini bread sticks. Great place to sit outside and people watch.

Lovely place. Off san martin. I came here 2 years ago. And had to come back for the tortilla espaniola ( spanish omelette). A complementary empinada came whilst it was being cooked. A great taste start. I am here at a major convention and most other places have anglo's in them. This one was free of them. A true local... More

On 5th March, 2015, we visited this place for lunch. We started walking from Amerian Hotel in the same district and after crossing many sidewalk cafes and bars, we located this place as it was quite crowded at around 2 pm! We could not get a table outside and we were shown a table inside. The menu card was in... More

This bar/restaurant was one of my favorites! It reminded me of the bars here in Baltimore City. The service was friendly and fast. Prices were good and the menu had tone of great food. It was off the beaten path, tucked away on a alley street right next to my hotel NH Florda. I went there to end the night... More

We happened on this cafe without knowing it was a neighborhood hangout by some of Argentina's top contemporary artists who are featured in many modern collections throughout BA. Jorge De la Vega, Ernesto Delta, and Romulo Maccio to name a few, and de la Vega painted a window mural. My friend had a Biff de lomo (tenderloin) which was excellent.... More

Just returned from a trip to Beunos Aires and called into this bar one evening, no idea what to eat, however, the owner was brilliant he created meals for us, was great company and great fun. Art is superb. So good we visited a second night.

Enjoyed the local feel. Decent happy hour. Calamari is worth a try, a bit salty but good quality. Happy hour can be a good del if you are looking for small plates etc. off the beaten path but still in a lively area.

Nice bar for before dinner drink. Mainly for local guys. Less known for the tourists. Do not accept credit card, cash only.

Attracted by the tables outside without too many smokers and by the variety and prices of the lunch menu, we enjoyed the cold beer but felt like we were participating in a remake of The Birds with the owner feeding the pigeons on the sidewalk. They were happy to make themselves at home on the chairs and tables. We had... More

Good pub for a beer and nice friendly staff. They have live music on the Saturday night but it wasn't too loud to make conversation impossible and in any case you could always sit outside if you wanted too! Didn't eat there but food looked OK.

Staying in Retiro

Neighborhood Profile
Retiro
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighborhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
