Fun place even though it is touristy

We came here for lunch and it is right in the middle of the market. Lots of tourists, but also some locals. Terrible. Staff snotty unfriendly and unhelpful. Nothing we wanted to eat from menu seemed available. Trading on the back of an old building which looks quaint and might have atmosphere if the staff were vaguely interested in their customers. I'd find somewhere else to go.

Bar Dorrego was a quick pitstop for us while we were strolling around the San Telmo Sunday flea market (which I highly recommend). We stopped in to have a coffee, and some medialunas, which were all delicious. While its probably not the best coffee in the world, in decor on the inside really made up for it. Super old decor... This is the iconic cafe where Borges and Sabato met to drink together despite their political differences, but because of their literary genius. There's a very famous picture of both in table talking above a suggestive chess-like floor. Pros: * Friendly staff * great food

Reminds me bit of some bars in The French Quarter of New Orleans. Wooden floors and old decor. Maybe a bit like the Napoleon Bar in NO. Very busy on a Sunday when the Antiques Fair is on and a good place to watch the frenzied shoppers duck and dive past all the street vendors. A bit of fun and... More

This place is known for it's old world charm and antiques in the form of the old coffee machines, wine, beer and liquor bottles on display, the old chairs and tables with football stars inscribed on the wood everywhere, old boxes from where they sold some of the other stuff like provisions besides the cafeteria. The bar is just on... More

We ate a leisurely lunch on the Plaza Dorrego. Our waitress was attentive, but we never felt rushed to leave or order more, even though we had simple empenadas and drinks. There was the typical tango dancers for the tourist, but even that was entertaining, and seemed to blend into the area. Oddly, it all felt right. Anyone in the... More

I was in the middle of my personal marathon trying to cover as much as I could of Buenos Aires on foot! Coming from the Barrio Boca and on my way to Palermo, I was whipped, sweaty, hungry and definitely needed a break. I saw this bar right at the corner which looked like a typical tourist trap but was... More
