I recently had lunch here based on reviews from other sources. It was a pleasant experience, but I'd like to provide a bit of counterpoint to the reviews below. Don Julio is inexpensive only to foreigners. It is pricey compared with other BA parrillas of similar quality. This might be because they cater to a large tourist clientele (the menu... more
Don Julio is among my favorite parrillas in Buenos Aires (top 10). It's got a great, old-school atmosphere: brown leather-topped wooden tables, chairs, and ancient tiled floors, with hundreds of wine bottles signed with love from restaurant patrons who had a great experience. The steaks are very good to great: seared perfectly and extremely tender. Their house-made salsa & chimichurri... more
Parilla with traditional atmosphere, warm service. Amazing value. more
Went to Don Julio's last night and it was an amazing eating experience. The food was incredible (fave-ojo de bife), the service was positively spot-on. When we needed the waiter he was there. And the meat? out of this world! And I am a butcher so I know good meat! Best restaurant in BA so far, and we've been in some... more
I read the reviews on Don Julio before going to Buenos Aires at the end of February 2009 and decided that is where we would eat on Saturday night, 28th February. Arrived at Don Julio's around 8.40pm after a very scary taxi ride and we were able to get a table for two inside the restaurant on the upstairs balcony.... more
We ate here in February 2009. Loved it. For ambience, service and food probably the best value in Argentina, at least in Buenos Aires, Bariloche, El Calafate and Iguazu. Unless you have a huge appetite share everything, except the wine !!! more
This restaurant had been highly recommended, but we were warned that it can have it's off days. The food was good, great steak and the desert was fine. The problem was the service. It's was clear from the huge queue outside at 10pm that it has a good name, but it was hard not too feel like they were only... more
Spent a week in BA and tried a number of steak spots high end, lowend, enjoyed don Julio the most. 5 of us ate 6 entrees with appetizers, dulce de leche crepe dessert, 3 bottles of wine for ~$300 USD. As a Texan I know good steak, Argentinian beef is as good as any that I've tried on earth Don Julio... more
On our last afternoon in BA, it just had to be a fantastic steak washed down with Malbec. Don Julio was just round the corner from our hotel; it's a handsome and old-fashioned looking porteno restaurant and ideal for a late lunch (open til 4pm for lunch, from 7pm for dinner) we thought. The day was gorgeous, so we elected... more
