La Vierge, French for 'The Virgin', is nestled in the folds of the breathtaking Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (Heaven and Earth) close to Hermanus. Our lovingly tended vineyards, situated in Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, are characterized by long cool summers influenced by the close proximity of the Atlantic Ocean. Using sketches and drawings by renowned British artist, Sir Michael Adams who works and lives in the Seychelles, a design language was created that reflects the rich symbolism associated with the Hemel-en-Aarde area. Our crest represents Adam and Eve pondering the Serpent and Apple.

Great views, good wines and food but poor service

This is set in a vineyard on the side of a high hill, with great views toward the coast. The wines are quite good and cheekily named. The food was okay and good value, but the wait staff-despite taking orders on I-pads- forget things like the bubbly with the oysters and side orders. The bubbly came... read more

We booked a table for 1pm and when we arrived I could see that there was not enough waiters to help. We were a big group of 10 and was seated. After 10 min we were still not sure who was our waiter and I had to walk to the kitchen to get someone to order drinks. We placed our... More

Did a trip in the Hemel and Aarde valley yesterday. First stop was La Viege at 10h00. We needed some food to prepare us for the trip up the valley! We had a cheese platter and a meat platter with our wine tasting. The platters were excellent and reasonably priced. Waldie was passionate and very informative about the wine and... More

Newton Johnson was closed so tried La Vierge, following a number of wine tastings elsewhere. Fried shrimp and squid in spicy batter starter was tasty and well presented, however my line caught fish was very disappointing, and not fresh. Service was relaxed but cheerful, if a bit slow. Overall a bit disappointing compared to my visits to Newton Johnson.

Went to Creation, it was heaving and noisy so lunch there didn't look promising, drove down the road and came across La Vierge, fairly full but they found us a nice table right by the window looking out over the valley. Limited menu but everything was freshly cooked an good, wine was good to so we had a very good... More

The welcoming staff of this absolutely fabolous restaurant cum winery has made my day. The wines are exceptionally good and the food is stupendous. Our group had a variety of first and main courses and desserts. The fresh bread delivered to the table with herbed butter was delightful, my smoked snoek pate' was well balanced, the lamb belly tender on... More

Found La Vierge on a previous visit but too late for lunch, so made sure we tried it this time. We were not disappointed as good food and wine (although limited menu choice) and excellent and friendly service. Book a table by the window as views are stunning.

Was there last week for lunch, poor menu, had the lamb belly, indifferent quality food poorly cooked with indifferent service. This was our third visit. Give it a miss.
