Description: Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic core of the Groot...
Jonkershuis Constantia is nestled in the historic core of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate next to the historic Manor House and surrounded by ancient oak trees. Your first impression is dominated by sweeping views across the oldest wine producing vineyards in South Africa, down the valley to the enveloping coastline of False Bay. This family owned and managed bistro boasts a diversity of locations from private dining grandeur, to intimate interior fire side dining, to typical Italian village gatherings in their vine covered courtyard to family style lunches on their front lawns, were children can safely play reminiscent of a bygone era.. Partner Chris Coetzee, a father of two energetic young sons says, "Our close proximity and strong association with Iziko Museums is very important to me, it is a privilege for my children to be raised surrounded by so much of their heritage." The rich cultural history of Jonkershuis lends a magical and old world charm to any occasion held at the beautiful Jonkershuis. Tammy Botbyl (partner), "The strong legacy of history and tradition has inspired many couples to share their vows here and celebrate their union in style. It is a privilege for us to be part of the beginning of so many new legacies."

Always perfect for a weekend morning breakfast

Service was good, as was the food. Lots of parking. It was very quiet after about 8.30pm - not sure why. The wine list could be improved to include a few high quality products. The tables are a bit close together if you are a party of six. Interesting to find out why it empties out so early.

It was a summery lunchtime and we preferred the Jonkershuis for its Cape Malay (sort of Indian) cuisine. Smoked snoek pâté, nice enough, led into discussion of post war English food when a Labour government offered the victors snoek and whale steaks. Cape Malay chicken dishes were excellent if a tad mild. Driving, we waited for the excellent sweet Vin... More

We just had Sunday brunch here, sitting outside near the lawn overlooking that beautiful, vineyard with the mountains in the distance. A brisk, cool day. Perfect for outdoor brunch, and the food was great too. We all had the eggs florentine, with smoker salmon trout (they call it) and the Hollandaise sauce was wonderful. Service friendly, big time family place, with... More

Simply a unique moment a bit out of time in this beautiful estate! The food quality is excellent and the wines obviously accordingly ! The service was very kind and efficient and we could have dessert outside and enjoy the summer sunny atmosphere! A short recommendation: call the day before to book a table during the summer season and after... More

I absolutely loved this experience. We had a reservation for inside but when we inquired about sitting outside, we were offered a beautiful partially covered terrace area. The menu is small but everything we tried was perfect. I loved that we were told that chef had removed the rib-eye steak off the menu for the day before we started ordering.... More

Griot Constantia is one of the oldest houses in South Africa and is now a museum and an art gallery. It also has the lovely Jonkershuis restaurant where we sat outside with all of The Cape stretched out beneath us. Absolutely lovely but I would strongly advise booking. It is deservedly popular and well worth a visit.

A very elegant setting, once at the restaurant the views over the vineyards and then the city are absolutely stunning. The groot constantia Sauvignon blanc is worth a try and the food was just as good, a great steak and the men liked the lamb curry. Very helpful staff and good prices too. We will be back
