Well presented tasty tapas

went for supper (tapas) last week. Restaurant full so please book. The food was very good. Portions a little smaller than they used to be but still worth. Definitely worth a visit. Setting is great. So is the wine. I recommend the Rattlesnake Savignon Blanc.

Sadly, having abandoned Catharina's Restaurant at Steenberg Hotel a while back (long serving chef and reasonable food) for its consistently poor service, one has always relied on the attractive wine tasting facility and Bistro 1682, also on the Estate. sadly a recent lunch is in line with recent reviews, combining amateurish service and food absolutely not up to what one... Think waiter so bad one of our party suggested he may be stoned! Had to be reminded to take food order for two of six people at table. Checked order twice. Still forgot one main course which finally arrive ... Half cooked risotto. Oh and the bottle sauv blanc that sat on the table getting warm for 15 mins before... More

We initially booked a table for breakfast, then moved it for lunchtime, and we did well! In fact we got almost an hour late to our table since we spent that time (after having duly advised the Bistro's Management!) at the wine tasting and again, what a delight! Westley introduced us to a wide variety of wines, and very professionally... More

This is a lovely venue if you want a casual light lunch or early evening tapas. The service is excellent and very friendly. The food is very good, although, I thought slightly lacking in imagination compared to previous years. Not surprisingly, their wines are excellent including a glass of fizz before getting into the more substantial wines.

My friend from London & I went for lunch during the week. The restaurant was full so booking is essential. The service was fast & professional & the food was very tasty & well presented. The wines are from their vineyards but prices a bit expensive. The setting on a sunny day is magnificent & well worth a visit.

Ok, so I am giving this 5 stars when I have only had breakfast but it is worth it. A truly excellent breakfast, beautifully served in wonderful surroundings followed by some very special wine tasting. What better way to spend half a day.

My best friend and I were on holiday from Durban, we had just missed the breakfast run due to our cab getting lost. We took the time to have a wine tasting while we waited until noon. Michael who was serving our wines was so knowledgeable and friendly. When we sat down to order we decided on a bottle of... More

We had Saturday lunch with a group of friends and the service was slow and the food was only okay. I have eaten here twice and found the staff snooty and unhelpful both times. I would certainly not rush back. The funny thing is that the people at the wine tasting are the exact opposite. They really go out of... More
