Steenberg is one of a kind. Its unique historical background and irreplaceable situation make it a magical place to holiday at. The hotel nestles in the tranquil Constantia Valley, against the slopes of the Steenberg Mountain, offering sweeping views over the False Bay. This boutique hotel is a haven of serenity and gracious hospitality with a choice of 24 elegant, air conditioned rooms, three of which are the luxurious Heritage Suites. Each en-suite room is tastefully furnished, some with exquisite antiques and all overlooking the vineyards or manicured gardens. Award-winning chef, Garth Almazan, will host you at the Catharina's Restaurant where guests are invited to relax, dine in style and enjoy sophisticated South African cuisine. The estate boasts a state of the art modern winery, Steenberg Vineyards, which is recognized as one of the top white wine cellars in the country, and features a popular new cellar door restaurant, Bistro Sixteen82. A championship 18-hole golf course, designed by Peter Matkovich, surrounds the hotel. Guests are given special rates and can enjoy a round of golf on a course that was designed to make full use of the natural features and hazards.

Lovely Setting

A lovely setting under umbrellas on the terrace overlooking the gardens. Sunday lunch is served as a buffet and what a buffet it is! Excellent food and lots of it, both in choice and quantity laid out in the elegant main dining room. However don't go late or you'll miss all the best bits!

This is clearly a beautiful property and the dining room offers an elegant setting. The menu was also very original with a delicious salmon tartar to start with. I was a little bit less impressed by the main that combined lamb loin and sweetbread.

We took friends to Catharina's on Valentine's Night. Had a very nice meal. The fish platter was excellent and we all enjoyed our meal very much. However, the service was slow and we felt we were ignored for a good part of the evening.

We visit this part of South Africa every year and always make a point of eating at Catharina's. The Steenberg estate is beautiful, the restaurant well laid out and the food of a consistent high standard. Three courses including pre dinner drinks and a large glass of of great white wine each cost 800 rand for the two of us... More

We hosted some friends at this restaurant last on Frbruary 5, 2015 and loved this Estate. There are two restautantes, a bistro and another offering fine dinning, Catarinas's. Both restaurants are within the beautiful Sreenberg Estatae, definitely worth a visit. We had tried to book a week I advance bit could not get a table at the Bistro, but managed... More

A magnificent spread of excellently prepared foods. We had a large group(8) and the service was very good. The buffet selection was fresh and appetising and the accompanying Sternberg bubbly was very palatable. Wonderful approach from management and staff who were friendly, courteous and highly efficient. Tracy was a Five Star! Thanks Nicci and the team and well done.

We had lunch on 9 Jan 2015; we sat outside under the oak trees; our kids (age 6&8) thoroughly enjoyed it; special menu for kids; our waitress (Tracy) provided us with excellent service; she interacted with the kids as well. We enjoyed the oysters, salmon tartar and carpaccio for starters; for mains, Prawn risotto was really tasty and a winner... More

A casual visit for lunch. An unwelcome greeting and a sullen attitude met our request for a light lunch. We were told we couldn't sit outside and were offered the bar, despite there being a number of tables available. In the bar area we were taken over by Paul, who could not have been more friendly and helpful! He took... More

We often go to Catharinas but think we will give it a miss now. It has become very expensive and the servings are not great portions. If you bring it to the managers attention he merely says "well that's the way we do it". He is right, but come winter he might find that a more accommodation attitude might result... More
