Steenberg is one of a kind. Its unique historical background and irreplaceable situation make it a magical place to holiday at. The hotel nestles in the tranquil Constantia Valley, against the slopes of the Steenberg Mountain, offering sweeping views over the False Bay. This boutique hotel is a haven of serenity and gracious hospitality with a choice of 24 elegant, air conditioned rooms, three of which are the luxurious Heritage Suites. Each en-suite room is tastefully furnished, some with exquisite antiques and all overlooking the vineyards or manicured gardens. Award-winning chef, Garth Almazan, will host you at the Catharina's Restaurant where guests are invited to relax, dine in style and enjoy sophisticated South African cuisine. The estate boasts a state of the art modern winery, Steenberg Vineyards, which is recognized as one of the top white wine cellars in the country, and features a popular new cellar door restaurant, Bistro Sixteen82. A championship 18-hole golf course, designed by Peter Matkovich, surrounds the hotel. Guests are given special rates and can enjoy a round of golf on a course that was designed to make full use of the natural features and hazards.

Amazing setting, great start of our holiday in Cape Town

Lovely designed restaurant, excellent service and very nice food. Good fish and veggie option if you do not like meat. Will definitely return.

the view is great. The restaurant buildings and the vineyard are full of history. Food is nice and based on the price we expect more. The wine list is really long, but they put twice their Steenberg wines. We can't have by glasses any wine of the house Steenberg, which is not helping to taste the wine. Yes there is... More

Had a disappointing meal which I chose to send back because of the fishy taste . The manager then chose to argue with me about the merits of he fish after including the full cost of the returned item on the bill.

The restaurant is blessed with its position among vines, mountains, great Cape Dutch architecture and views. Sadly, these advantages are quickly forgotten by rather inept service and other multiple failures. Recent refurbishment of the restaurant has made it an attractive place to dine and the closure of two well known and highly rated restaurants in the vicinity should have allowed... More

While on holiday in CT we tried this restaurant on recommendation of friends. And we're glad we did. Though it took ages to get there (our fault, why we chose to take a taxi through CT during rush hour is beyond me!), we made it before sunset. After 3 nights staying in central CT it was lovely to get into... More

NB. NB: I made a review of the restaurant Catharina´s on 9 March 2015, published few days after. My rating (4 dots) was originally for the hotel, BUT my rating of The Catharina´s Restaurant is just 2 dots due to a salmonella poisoning from the eggs in the dessert called Chocolate Fondant.

This is a great place to while away a few hours relaxing at. Sit under the shade of the old oak trees over a sociable lunch or dine in elegant surroundings inside for dinner. The bar is smart and the selection is veritably great.

We had a super lunch here, if you are looking for something for a special occasion and want to splash out, this is a great option. We all had a lovely meal, starters, main course and desert, and the wine tips were spot on. Service was attentive while not crowding us. The space is lovely and tasteful. We were a... More

We booked a Sunday lunch with friends at Catharina's advertised as a Jazz lunch and was really impressed. The setting is superb although we did have to eat indoors as the wind outside was blowing a hooley. The buffet was fantastic even by South African standards and to be honest I would have been quite happy to have eaten more... More

We wanted to treat friends to a special treat and were excited at the prospect of dinner at Catharina's - a beautiful setting, but cold interior and hardly romantic. We all had a battle to chose something we liked from the limited menu - three of us landed up ordering the pasta in a mushroom sauce topped with crispy duck... More
