Steenberg is one of a kind. Its unique historical background and irreplaceable situation make it a magical place to holiday at. The hotel nestles in the tranquil Constantia Valley, against the slopes of the Steenberg Mountain, offering sweeping views over the False Bay. This boutique hotel is a haven of serenity and gracious hospitality with a choice of 24 elegant, air conditioned rooms, three of which are the luxurious Heritage Suites. Each en-suite room is tastefully furnished, some with exquisite antiques and all overlooking the vineyards or manicured gardens. Award-winning chef, Garth Almazan, will host you at the Catharina's Restaurant where guests are invited to relax, dine in style and enjoy sophisticated South African cuisine. The estate boasts a state of the art modern winery, Steenberg Vineyards, which is recognized as one of the top white wine cellars in the country, and features a popular new cellar door restaurant, Bistro Sixteen82. A championship 18-hole golf course, designed by Peter Matkovich, surrounds the hotel. Guests are given special rates and can enjoy a round of golf on a course that was designed to make full use of the natural features and hazards.

I booked Catharina's and then picked up on some scathing comments relating to their service. Apprehensively, I was expecting the worst. They've obviously taken the comments to heart. The service was outstanding and the winter menu is excellent value for money. Coffee was terrible and when I raised this with the waiter, he handled it perfectly and swapped it for... More

Having been a 'regular' diner for Capee Town winters for several years and having enjoyed so many happy Sunday buffets sat in the terrace enjoying the Cape winter sun watching our boys play on the lawn whom at we enjoyed the jazz band Al fresco and probably one extra bottle of Steenberg red, what a disappointment this Father's Day to... We booked for Sunday lunch and it was one of the best experiences ever! We felt welcomed and special from the moment that we stepped in and everything was up to the standard that you expect and beyond. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding and the attention to detail was impressive. The host, Ronel, was born to be... More

I live in Constantia and like to get out and about and enjoy the winter winter specials. Friday nights visit was a great suprise. Wonderful choices on the winter special menu - the beef short rib and beetroot risotto were sublime. Only let down was the service. A little surly and unfriendly.Very sloppily dressed staff considering the upmarket decor and... More

The service to clients / guests is cold and uncaring. 45 minutes elapsed between courses and no care or explanation forthcoming from waiter or management. Then the manager eventually explains that the "oven" in the kitchen is malfunctioning and that being the reason for the delay of our desert coming through. The deserts were ice cream with one requiring to... More

This has to be one of my top 10 restaurant experiences ever (and I've been blessed to eat at several Michelin starred restaurants in my life - including Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons). The oysters could not have been more fresh, they serve only sustainable fish, perfectly cooked in Asian sauces, really good 'seafood plate', goats cheese with walnut and pear... More

Went for a quiet breakfast in the week . The venue is classy and cosy. It is very peaceful and calm. The food was great. Good portion size. Meals from R40 up. The coffee was good. To add we had great service from our waitress Tracy who made us feel most welcome.

This restaurant was just what we wanted for a quiet quality dinner. It had a very comfortable bar and then the restaurant had a big warm fire. Food was excellent, though a limited menu. We had the sustainable fish which was spot on. Can also strongly recommend the chowder to start with and the chocolate pudding.... Service was very attentive.... More
