We had booked the private room and were all looking forward to a great evening at Five Flies. Sadly, the service was shocking, the appetizers took 80 mins to come out the kitchen and the food was average at best. There was no one in charge, no manager, the waiters were not efficient at all and it seemed as there... More

We dined at The Five Flies Restaurant while visiting Cape Town based on a recommendation from our concierge, we were not disappointed! The setting of the restaurant is lovely and welcoming. The service and food are both top notch.

I visited The Five Flies Restaurant on our last night in Cape Town; it was recommended by a friend. It was actually rather disappointing. On a Saturday night at 9pm only 4 tables were busy, with the rest of the restaurant eerily empty and quiet. The waitress, although really friendly and warm, was not very experienced. The food was truly... More

Too many things went wrong... 1) No wine list available. The waiter tried his best, but he was insecure an unsure, so my husband went to the bar to find out what is "available" 2) We ordered crab, prawns and lamb meals. The crab was raw and the prawns mushy (too old or frozen/defrosted too many times). We sent these... More

We eat at the 5 Flies on most of our annual trips to CT. This year was good but the format had changed to a regular a la carte menu rather than the 1,2 or 3 course fixed price options used hitherto. We preferred the latter which differentiated the restaurant from others. No problems with the food or service, it... More

Delicious food, great wine list, and wonderful service. This was the second time we visited the restaurant in the last few weeks and both evenings were memorable in every respect.

Last weekend my partner and I visited five flies for dinner, I have amazing memories of their food, having visited a few years ago. Alas, it is no longer what it once was. We started with prawns and the scallops, the scallops were cold and insubstantial, the pea purée was lumpy and bland. I'm guessing the dish was pre-prepared as... More

An old family favourite for special occasions - it does not disappoint. We have always had an excellent meal, special service and in general just a feeling of being 'out' for the evening when going here. There are many restaurants in Cape Town but the five flies stand out because it is one of those places where you still WANT... More

The Five Flies is located in one of Cape Towns oldest buildings - originally housing the Dutch Club where I remember, as a child, meeting Saint Nikolas and Swaarte Piet with trepidation. Was I a good girl and going to receive a present? The building itself is beautiful with many smaller rooms to hold small functions if one wishes. Downstairs... More
