Great experience for tourists I would say. The concept of the food - 13 dishes from across Africa served over a good period of time in a tapas / buffet style I think really works and provides and enjoyable alternative to menu / course driven food. The taste and the quality of food was very good. The staff are warm... More

The meal is based on an African Feast, featuring a side dish from each of a number of countries. Small bowls of food are presented, which allows you to taste and enjoy the dish. You are able to ask for any dish to be repeated. However, it is unlikely that you will be able to work through any of the... More

This was one of the most interesting and satisfying restaurant experiences ever and in the top 5 of 130 days of travel this year. The site is an old 3-story building; each room is decorated in African motif with specially designed "china," napkins, and flatware. The fixed menu, consisting of no fewer than 13 items, is displayed in a solar-lit... More

We went to the Africa Café expecting to get an array of local dishes (Makalaka, Mealy Pap, Bobotie, etc.) we gleaned from reading about South Africa. Sad to say, the offerings were from ALL of Africa, i.e. Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt. The server seemed somewhat indifferent or perhaps just struggled with the language and I sure struggled with hers. We were... More

This restaurant is a real gem and I would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in trying new dining experiences. It's great value for what you are getting as with a 14 course menu you will roll out of the place. While I obviously liked some courses better than others there were none that I didn't enjoy and... The Africa Café offers a multi-cultural dining experience, that will take you on a journey from North to South of Africa (Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia, Malawi, South Africa..). Housed in an historic national monument, the restaurant is divided over 3 levels and 7 richly decorated dining rooms. The Africa Café menu is extensive but it is a set menu, that allows... More

Bring an appetite. Great place that gives patrons an opportunity to taste foods from different cultures and countries from all over the continent of Africa. The diversity of tastes is amazing. Dishes are served family style, so you won't leave hungry. While eating the wonderful ladies and gentleman of the African Cafe blessed our ears with songs. Their singing reminded... More

If you're looking for a truly African experience with great food (and are okay with a slightly higher than average cost) then this is the place. They specialize in a set menu of about 15 different dishes from all over Africa (think lots of flat breads, curries, stews, potato cakes, sauces, etc.) with complex and delicious comfort flavors. The set... More

This was one of the best experiences we've had in South Africa so far. The food was absolutely delicious!! There was so much of it we struggled to finish. But wow!! every course was delectable. Then there was the musical performance! What a treat!! I couldn't recommend this restaurant highly enough. It has absolutely blown my mind. Thank you!!

Several years ago the Africa Cafe was a must-do for first time visitors to Cape Town. They offered a winning formula of interesting dishes from all corners of Africa, a fun and colorful ambiance and lively entertainment as the staff went from room to room singing and playing the drums. All in all, it was a great evening. A few... More
